Lionfish

A lionfish is any of several species of venomous marine fish in the family Scorpaenidae. Lionfish are native to the tropical Indo-Pacific region of the world, but have been spotted in the warmer coral regions of the eastern Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. They generally achieve a length of 7 to 14 inches. Lionfish have long, separated spines and a striped appearance. They are hardy fish that adapt well to life in captivity. Keepers should be careful to avoid the venomous spines when working in aquariums containing lionfish.
