The Purple Tang is a herbivore, and should be provided with a varied diet that includes frozen and flake foods for herbivores as well as dried algae sheets. The Purple Tang - Living Environment A fish tank with live rock and decor to provide several hiding spots and plenty of swimming space is recommended. Purple Tangs are most aggressive towards fish of similar form, especially other fish in the Zebrasoma genus. To minimize aggression in a small aquarium it is recommended to have only one Tang. The Purple Tang may chase fish with similar feeding behavior or shape, but typically gets along well in a larger community based fish tank.
