The Marine Aquarium Societies of North America (MASNA), a nonprofit organization, gives an annual scholarship to an undergraduate seeking a degree in the marine science field.
At this year's Marine Aquarium Conference of North America (MACNA) XXII in Orlando, Florida, MASNA announced that the winner of the second annual MASNA Scholarship Award (who receives $2,500 in scholarship money) is Kristin Privitera-Johnson, a 19-year-old from Seal Beach, California. She keeps two saltwater aquariums, scuba dives, and is interested in the proliferation and successful management of the sustainable fishery industry.
She attends California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and is working on a bachelor of science in marine biology and a bachelor of arts in geography, as well as a minor in environmental science and policy. She is vice president of the Marine Biology Student Association at CSULB.
Information for applying for next year's scholarship is posted on masna.org.
