May 2010 FAMA Editor's Note
My Visit to Shark Reef
In recent years, Las Vegas has gone to the fishes, both freshwater and saltwater. And nowhere are fishes featured more prominently than at Shark Reef Aquarium at the Mandalay Bay resort. Recently, my family and I were lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the 1.6-million-gallon themed aquarium. Our guide was Shark Reef General Curator Jack Jewell, who provided background for each of the facility’s 14 exhibits. Among other things, Jewell filled us in about animal feedings, the aquarium’s humming life-support infrastructure, Shark Reef’s green sea turtles and the Dive With Sharks program.

Best Cover of 2009
Readers may recall a few issues back that I discussed an online poll to determine which of our most popular 2009 FAMA covers people preferred. Well, the jury’s in: FAMA’s December 2009 cover of a planted tank was the top vote-getter, with 57 out of 129 total votes. Hopefully, FAMA readers will see more “tank” covers in the future.
And kudos to all of you who voted.
