Fish Chat!

By Patricia Knight

We at Aquarium Fish International are happy to announce a couple changes. You may be familiar with our “Aquarist Notebook” section, featuring a helpful hint for fishkeepers every month. We’re still running this section, only it is now on the last page of the magazine instead of in Aquabits. This will give us room for more in-depth news in Aquabits instead.

Also, we are starting a new section: Fish Chat. Here, we will publish answers that our forum visitors post on FishChannel.com in answer to our monthly question. Our question this month was: “How long have you been in the hobby? What do you love most about fishkeeping?” Interested in reading what our forum participants had to say? Turn to the last page of the September issue to find out. If you’d like to participate yourself by answering next month’s question, just go to our forums on FishChannel.com. The question is posted in the “Announcements” forum.

Speaking of participation, reefkeepers will be pleased to hear that MACNA XXI is getting closer. It will be taking place at the Sheraton in Atlantic City on September 25 through September 27, 2009. This event will be hosted by the New Jersey Reefers and the Marine Aquarium Society of North America. At this time, scheduled speakers include Bob Fenner, Julian Sprung, Martin Moe and more. For more fish event information, click here.

And here’s something that can help all fishkeepers, whether fresh or marine. Tank maintenance is extremely important — it can be difficult to easily keep track water parameters and of what maintenance was done to your aquarium and when. If creating forms to keep track of maintenance is not for you, we’ve done the work for you: You can download our PDF maintenance logs — one for freshwater, one for saltwater (fish only) and one for reef tanks — and use them to write down maintenance, water parameters and more. It’s free of charge, so we encourage you to download these handy tools to help you take better care of your animals. Just log on to FishChannel.com/ThreeLogs to get these PDFs, which are sponsored by Mars Fishcare. What are you waiting for?
