Many years ago when I first started keeping fish, the best (and virtually only) book on the subject was Dr. Innes’ Exotic Aquarium Fishes. The “exotic” part in the title was because most of the fish came from far-off lands, such as South America and Asia. In Europe, their idea of exotic fish also includes fish from far away: North America. Over there, they avidly keep American fish that are swimming in our rivers and lakes — fish we rarely consider keeping in our aquariums.
