“Oddities” can make great pets — are these fish odd enough for your tanks?

For many aquarists, the aquarium fish of Africa begin and end with rift valley cichlids and Synodontis catfish. In reality, there’s a diverse range of African freshwater fish, including many interesting, easy-to-keep oddball species. These won’t grow too large, are not particularly predatory and don’t require special water conditions. Best of all, many are regularly imported and modestly priced.
