You can probably tell from the cover that there are some changes this issue — some very good changes! For example, starting this month, we will have more content than ever!

Before moving on to the good news, we have to mention some not-so-good news: Our sister publication, Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA), has ceased publication as of its June 2010 issue. We’re sorry to see it go — though both magazines covered fish, FAMA was more marine-oriented, so there really wasn’t a lot of competition for topics.

Now, on to the good news: Several FAMA columns have moved into Aquarium Fish International. And for many of these columns, you can send in questions for the columnists to potentially answer. Just go to to get started.

One other change is that former FAMA Editor Clay Jackson has joined our editorial staff and is now editor of AFI. And now, I’ll hand it over to Clay for his very first Aquarium Fish International editorial page!

Patricia Knight
Managing Editor

Everyone’s a winner. And I’ve got some swampland in Florida to show you. But in this instance, it’s the gospel truth. When was the last time Aquarium Fish International was 144 pages? Never. Expanded marine content, more columnists (those coming over from FAMA), nine — count ‘em — nine features, a fish vet column (“Wet Vet”) and a monthly review of fishkeeping products (“In the Fish Room”) you can use at home — it’s all here in the new-and-improved AFI.

I’m looking forward to bringing loyal AFI readers, die-hard FAMA fans and those picking up AFI for the first time the best in freshwater and marine fishkeeping coverage every month. I’m also looking forward to working with AFI’s Managing Editor Patricia Knight, Assistant Editor Cassandra Radcliff and Art Director Cindy Kassebaum — all consummate professionals who’ve really put their marks on the magazine the last few years.

The only tiny bit of fool’s gold I can see is that you’ll have to stare at my mug each issue now.

Clay Jackson
