The Dazzling Danios

The danios come in spots and stripes, longfin and shortfin varieties. They range in size from the 2-inch-long zebra to the giant danios measuring at least 4 inches. The danios are hardy and active fish. Beloved by aquariumkeepers worldwide for their swift frolicking behaviors and attractive variations of color and markings, they are among the most popular fish for the beginner aquarium.
Danios are showy torpedo-shaped minnows hailing from the cool, quick-moving freshwater streams and rivers of eastern India. More recently discovered (and thus rarer) varieties have been found in the remote inland areas of conflict-torn Myanmar (also known as Burma).
