Algae are an integral part of earth’s plant life. Although algae can be a nuisance under certain circumstances (even as I write this, my local river, the Navesink, is suffering a scourge of red tide — a marine algae overgrowth), there are far more instances in which algae are important and a vital part of the food chain.
