Selecting Fish SpeciesChoosing fish for your aquarium is often the most fun part of the aquarium fish hobby. As you choose fish to add to a new or established aquarium, you must first determine fish compatibility . For example, research will tell you not to mix the serpae tetra with angelfish, (serpae tetras like to nip at long flowing fins of fish such as angelfish and bettas). The same holds for saltwater fish. Choose for compatibility. Some of the more popular marine fish include the firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica), percula clownfish (Amphiprion percula), and the blue/green chromis (Chromis viridis). All three of these species make excellent community tank mates with like non-aggressive fish. Popular tropical fish include the neon tetra , tiger barb, and corydoras catfish. While the neon tetra and corydoras catfish make excellent community tank mates, the tiger barb is a more aggressive and feisty fish that loves to chase and nip the fins of other fish. There are a variety of species of fish to choose from and careful research will help to determine the best fish for your tropical and marine aquariums. More>> |
