Kalkwasser: (n.) Kalkwasser, which is German for “lime water,” is a daily calcium supplement for reef aquariums. It is made by dissolving either high-grade quicklime (calcium dioxide, CaO) or hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2) in water. It helps keep the necessary levels of pH, calcium and alkalinity levels in a reef aquarium.
