Hi Vicky
Miss you! How's it going? That little percula clown we got for the 24g tank is nasty! Every time we put our hands in the tank for maintenace or whatever, he bites. He's got sharp little teeth too that hurt. Does yours do that? He's so territorial. He cares nothing about biting the hand that feeds him, lol. Morgan has aspergillus and that's not good. She'll be on a long road of treatment. Hope you guys are all okay. Vote.

Hey Vicky
How are you? You still out there? How was the rest of your summer? We have to take Morgan, our macaw to the vet tommorrow morning. She has some kind of a respiratory problem and has been wheezing. If she gets excited she really has to struggle to catch her breath, poor thing. It's probably going to cost a fortune. I'm sure they'll do x-rays, blood tests, cultures as well as the physical exam. It'll probably cost more than a people doctor. I just hope she's okay. They don't make any kind of a bird carrier big enough for a macaw that I have seen anyway. We're going to take her in a cardboard box. The trip is alittle over an hour and she'll probably have the whole box shredded before we even get there. Wish us luck! See ya for now.

Hi Vicky
How's it going? My poor blind fish has called it quits I think. I haven't seen him in a few days now. He seemed to have a miserable existence anyhow. I don't blame him for giving up. I was hoping he'd recover. He looked healthy enough. How is Sissy enjoying school? It must be keeping you all pretty busy. Hope things are going well for you. Take care, vote.

Hi Vicky
I started blogging to you last night because I realized I hadn't hear from you in a bit when my computer just plain decided to call it a night. It shut itself off right in the middle of a sentance. Irritating. Then I realized we had a sick finch and called it quits on the computer. The poor little finch passed on by morning. Whatever it had was very fast moving. I hope no more get it. We've lost 3 finches in the past months and a half. I've also got a blind fish. I think he got whipped by a pistol shrimp that hitch hiked in on rock or coral. I've never seen it but I've heard plenty of snaps coming from the back of the tank. The fish was all stressed out one night and I though he was going to die but I found him in the morning at the top of the tank looking a bit better. He kept swimming into things so I waved my hand in front of his face with no reaction. The tough part is trying to feed him. He can smell food but can't see it. The only hope is for him to run into it. Bad time for pets in our house! I hope you all are well. has Sissy started school yet? Seems like they go back earlier than ever lately. Well my friend, have a good day and a vote for you.

Didn't get home Friday night from work till 8:30 and I was too tired to blog. Tonight we just got in at 7:30, being away all day. We went to a radio controlled jet show in Gardner MA which is up in western MA about a 2 hr ride. We planned meet a doctor friend I work with there that loves jets. We had a nice time till a thunderstorm ripped through pretty much ending it all. Got back to the cars and our friend's car had a flat. Rode around looking for Fix a Flat, got it and fixed it. Then we followed him back to RI to a restaraunt that was really good. Different. It was Brazilian and Milanese. It was all you could eat. There was a huge antipasto bar with about 200 different things for starters. They gave you a thing that was red on one end and green on the other. When you turned it up to the green side thees "gaucho's as they call them" came with many different kinds of meat and other things on skewers and sliced some of whatever you wanted. Filet mignon too! When you wanted a break, you'd flip the thing over to the red side and they'd give you a break until you flipped it back over. Really good stuff! The best garlic bread I ever had in my life too. We were there for over 2 hours. I've never been in a restaraunt that long before. We were stuffed to capacity. Quite reasonable too. It was $28 a person. They have a website, check it out. Rodiziosteakhouseri.com Yum Yum. Vote for you.

Hi Vicky
Raw deal that your relief didn't show up. I know what you mean about people just not being responsible anymore. I think it's because they've been spoiled rotten. We have a girl who's about 35 now and she strolls in whenever she feels like it. She's suppose to be in at 6:30 am and is never in till at least after 7am. Then she's hogging the bathroom putting on makeup and doing her hair for the next hour. Last Friday she had the nerve to show up at 10:30 am! She's always disappearing too. Usually out to smoke or hang out with her boyfriend. There is no leadership in the place right now so she gets away with it. Another girl and myself are the only ones chronicly on time. We're there at 20 past 6 without fail and end up doing all the work. It is exasperating. Now we've both vented. It has been cool for August hasn't it? The tornado siting 2 towns over turned out to be a waterspout they say may have been 75 feet wide. There were a bunch of boats overturned. Some good sized ones too. Scary weather. Still no power outtages thank god. I still haven't bought a generator for the tanks. Short on money with too many bills right now. Everyone's story. Enjoy your childlessness and get some quality rest! Vote for you.

Another thunderstorm tonight. There were flooding rains too. They showed a guy in the next town over going down a street in a rowboat. The town next to that had tornado warnings. What is going on!!!! That stuff usually never happens here. At least the thunderstorms make the birds behave. They get all quiet and snuggle together. Beats them out annoying us and fighting with each other as is usual, lol. A nice reprieve. A busier day at work today with 3 cases. Beats the none we've had for the most part. The hospital is in recievership and is financially circling the drain. We've just been waiting to see what happens. Hopefully things will pick up so they don't shut us down. Talk to ya later, vote.

Hi Vicky
I'm a member of the bucket brigade. I do water changes usually once a week because being italian I tend to feed heavy, lol. I geuss all this fatigue of ours is a function of age. Naps have become a favorite past time of mine. August heat tends to zap ya too. Are you going to add anymore fish to your tank? I have to hold myself back as I'm always tempted but I think I'm at maiximum load now. I'm having trouble keeping the temp. stable in the tank and have had another open brain coral bleach out with another on it's way. I hate when that happens. I don't think I want to get anymore of those. Well, I hope you get some rest also. I don't envy all you have to do! Take care, vote.

Hey Vicky
I was too pooped yesterday to do anything more than read my blogs. I had trouble falling asleep the night before and about a half hour after I did, a nasty thunderstorm came through and blasted me out of dreamland. That was it for the rest of the night. I have to get up at 4 am to go to work. I dragged butt all day. It was pretty emotional too because it was one of my favorite people's last day. Then it took me almost two hours to get home with all the traffic. I got home, plopped on the couch, turned on the computer, read a few blogs and nodded off. That is very cool that you can make those costumes. They're so complex! I'm glad you found a use for your husband, all mine does is play xbox. Although he did mow the lawn for the first time in three weeks, lol. Did water changes on the fishtanks today. The new clownfish kept nipping my hand the little squirt. Tank raised with no fears. I got bonked by a blenny too. Territorial fish in that 24g tank. They're the only two besides some shrimp. Talk to you soon, vote.

Hey Vicky
Good for your son! He sounds like a real go-getter no wonder you're proud. I would be too. My cousin Debbie has been an officer in the Navy for a long time and has loved it. She gets great benefits now and especially when she retires. She's one of the top people in the recruiting division now. I always had to listen to "why can't you be like your cousin Debbie..." when I was growing up, lol. I too am in the medical field. I'm a CVT in a cardiac cath lab and have been doing it for over 20 years. Unfortunately the lab I've been in for the past 6 years seems to be circling the drain. It was a new start-up then and the hospital is hemorraging money. They just closed the cardiac surgery program that was only 2 and a half years old. They didn't get the volume they expected. Oh well, I hope things stabilize. It may be cut back to a diagnostic lab ditching the interventions and acute MI's. The whole hospital is in recievership right now trying to be saved. Very neat on the re-enactments. They do that too here in my town. We have an area called Fort Pheonix where there are old Civil war cannons gaurding the harbor on a bluff. They're pretty cool. They go through a show and fire off the cannons too. Did you make your own costumes? Very interesting my friend. Tell Sissy to cool her jets, she's got plenty of time to decide. Tell her to test a few different waters first before she makes up her mind. Why am I telling you this? You already know, lol. I get the same response about the yard work. Our lawn must be 6 inches high right now. Jack likes to scorch it so it dies for the summer so he won't have to mow. We got alot of rain and he got foiled, haha! Take it easy (if you can), vote.

Hi
Stormy weather just hit us like a mallet. We had a thunderstorm rip through that actually caused a powersurge through the house. It blew out 2 of the metal halide bulbs and the x-box 360. The x-box came back on when tried. I haven't tried the bulbs until they completely cool off or they can fracture. I hope it's not permanant because they cost about $80 a bulb. The winds looked like a hurricane. Hopefully it got Jack's radio controlled planes out of the trees they've been sitting in for weeks, lol. Vote.

Shows how unobservant I'm getting with age. I just saw it for the first time yesterday. Anyway, they're beautiful birds. They look inseperable, are they? Our macaw and cockatoo are getting that way. Big oops. I bet Sissy is very sorry. Usually you learn things the hard way but too bad you had to suffer too. I'm sorry you lost some pictures because those are irreplaceble. You sound like you really know your way around a computer. Wish I did, all they do is frustrate me for the most part. Hope all is well soon. Nothing new here except we lost a society finch. It's the first one that we've lost since we started finching. Sad. I wonder if it was just old age. We had no idea how old he was when we bought him. I don't know what the average life span is either. I guess I've got some googling to do. Good luck virus busting, vote.

I think we'll just stick with the 1 clown as the tank is only 24g. We've got a pretty good coral bioload too and a lawnmover blenny. There's a pile of inverts too. We don't want to push the envelope and crash. That would upset me too much. I almost quit in the beginning when we were just doing fish only. Everytime a fish died I'd get so upset and feel awful for a long time kowing it was my learning curve and ignorance that did them in. I have a yellow striped maroon clown in the 45g. He's pretty darn cute too and is very much in love with his anemone. Talk later, vote.

Hi Vicky
I wouldn't have the patience to fly them. Jack is learning. He goes with a buddy of his from work to a huge soccer field and trys his luck. Which I may say hasn't been great. He's got 2 planes up in trees right now and is waiting for a good wind storm to shake them loose. I thought I'd be bored at the show but I wasn't. Pretty amazing the stunts they can do. And the size of some of the planes. We got a little percula clown like yours today for the 24g tank. He's very cute and seems to have adapted well. Jack got a betta too that he felt sorry for. He thought it was so ugly no-one would ever buy it so we did. He set it up in a nice home. He is pretty homely. Vote for you my friend.

Hi Vicky
We went to a radio controlled airshow today on Cape Cod. Boy they had some big ones! Some had a 10 ft or more wingspan and needed trailers for transport. Some of those people could really fly well too, doing incredible tricks that I'm sure no real plane could do. It was really neat to watch. There was a jet and the guy who flew that said he had others that he didn't bring with him that go 240 mph! That's radio controlled! I can't imagine how they can even keep track of it at that speed. He told us about another R/C airshow that was specializing in the jets in August. We told him how cool we though the jet he had with him was and he said you haven't seen anything yet, to go to the other show. I guess we'll be going to that too. Vote for ya.

Hello
I am just about at sea level and now that I have a bunch of money tied up in this reef tank, I'm so paranoid of getting a hurricane. We live 3 streets away from the ocean. About half the length of a football field. One good storm and we could end up oceanfront, hehe. When I can afford it, I'm going to invest in a portable generator. I find weather fascinating too. Once on Martha's Vineyard, I got to ride out part of a hurricane with my brother on his lobster boat. It was tied up a a dock but he kept her headed into the wind and kept the engine running to maintain some control. Basically just to be there so we wouldn't lose the boat. Then my mother called and was scared so I had to go stay with her. Darn! Boat and people survived. Well Vicky it's almost time to leave work. Vote for ya.

Hi Vicky
I remember going on a class field trip at her age to see Gone with the wind at the movie theatre. It was so long a movie at that age and hard to sit still at the theatre. Alot of kids got scolded. We've had really bad weather around here the past 2 days. Even tornado touchdowns, funnel clouds and hail not to mention thunder and lightning and monsoon downpours. Scary stuff. We lost power at the hospital I work in today. The x-ray went out while we had a patient on the table. Thank god we were wrapping up at the time. Imagine stents and balloons in the heart with no visualization! Scary. Stay safe, vote.

I can imagine what would happen with a trap. Everyother fish but him would be in it, lol. He's a smart bugger. I read he can grow to about six inches and I'd like to see him hide frome me then. Hi Vicki
Very interesting, no I didn't know that about chiclids. Evolution is such a fascinating subject. Funny about the bluegills liking ears. Jack had a fish come up to him when he was swimming and it bit him right on the nipple. He said it hurt like heck. I thought it was pretty funny. Fish can be so bold. I have a bluefin damsel in the tank who's such a jerk! He looks me right in the eye and then topples over one of my corals. I just had a fight with him a minute ago. He even had the nerve to come up to the glass, turn and shake his tail very aggressively at me. I'm tempted to get a little tiny hook and line, bait it and stick him in the 10g hospital all by his bad self. Well my friend, enjoy the rest of the weekend. Vote for you.

Hi
Very cool diving pictures! Are you recreational or do it professionally? I always wanted to learn but never got around to it. My husband used to dive for the Steamship Authority (ships to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket) as well as work regular repair for them. He stopped doing the diving part when they almost killed him. They screwed up on their dive flags and brought a ship in when he was still under the slip. He almost got sucked into the props. You must have alot of fun doing it. Catch anything for your tanks? Hi
Seems like alot of us fish people have birds too. We just saw our conure pull out a big tuft of finch tail feathers, the little jerk! He likes to climb up onto of their cage and look out the window. I think his privileges are going to be revoked. He got a good six or seven tail feathers, held them in his claw afterward and preened them one by one before dropping them on the floor. He gets loud too but no where near as loud as the macaw and the cockatoo. I wish you a peaceful evening. Vote.

My salt water tank
I started this tank about six years ago because I had an extra 20g sitting around and I had never tried salt water. I have kept it simple for the most part and my only really large ticket items have been the live rock and the protein skimmer. But when you only buy a few pounds of rock at a time, it is not to bad. The tank is kept in the living room but I plan on moving it in to the dinning room soon because it is to hard to clean now. Other than toping of water, not much else is done to the tank. The snails and lipits keep the glass clean and the worms make short work of any extra food the clown fish does not eat. What ever gets past the snails or worms the starfish and crabs get.
