Hi!
Hi Kev, I’m well thanks and I trust you are well too! Yes, the power cuts suck, but what can we do, the authorities have left it for too late and now we are being switched off in intervals in order to minimize load. We are supposed to have a hydro-electric plant in Lesotho, but I wonder what happened to that. Its part of living in a 3rd world country with first world standards. I’ve lived all my life in South Africa, I lived in Benoni, where Charlize Theron comes from. About 24 years ago we moved out west to Krugersdorp. The wild animals are all fenced into conservancies and parks, so we only get to see small game like buck, servals, caracals, jackals, leopards in some areas, baboons and monkeys, all sorts of birds, cranes, storks, ibises, raptors, etc. In most areas out of the city, you will find snakes, some are venomous like cape cobra, puff adder, rinkhals and mambas. We also have some nasty spiders, some are crab spiders like flower spiders, some are button spiders, which have a deadly bite and then the tarantula sort, called baboon spiders here, and scorpions too. We have an assortment of various bugs that bite, mosquitoes, horseflies, Tsetse fly, beetles among others. I suppose it all depends where in South Africa you live. In the cities, you will not find any game, snakes and scorpions, in the country you can expect anything. Like St. Lucia Bay, you will find hippos coming onto your lawn to graze at night. Crocs are also free reigning in that area. I have never been to America, Europe or Asia, just been around Southern Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Them mountain sheep have great horns, I watched a National Geographic special once where they show them butting heads! I used to do a lot of fishing. You must have heard of the massive catfish you catch here! We have a few indigenous species that are protected, so we usually go after perch, carp and tilapia. Tilapia give a good fight! Then I’ve been trout fishing in the Mpumalanga highlands and tiger fishing on the Limpopo. I haven’t been for over 7 years now. Coastal fishing is also good for catching steenbras, elf, yellowtails, barracuda, stumpnose, red romans, silver fish, rock cod, mussle cracker, kingfish among others. Glad to hear you got the book! I’m sure you will have much success breeding discus. Here is a vote for you too! Keep well and all the best mate! Cheers! Stokes
