Really miss you!
I hope you had a nice 4th of July holiday. It's been forever since I've heard from you. I've slacked off some myself but you've been gone for months! How's Barbara? I hope you both are well. I'm dying to hear how your tank is doing and if you're still building them for other lucky devils. Things must be growing fast in your tank now. Have you gotten anything new? The stupid damsel we call Destructo actually destroyed a lovely flowing xenia I had! He ripped it to shreds piece by piece. I kept chasing him off it but he kept coming back with a vengance! So I'm hesitant to get anything else fish included until he goes to fishy hell. I finally got pictures of that bristleworm (yes he's still alive!) I got out of the main tank last fall. I hadn't seen him for months but he came out when I water changed the 10g he's in. How he can be so big and hide so well in such a small tank is beyond me. The birds are all doing well. We got two more since I last talked to you. A congo african gray and a sun conure. This place looks like a rainforest! Have you joined any new forums? I know you were getting sick of this one but I hope you found another. You've got too much precious knowledge to keep bottled up inside you! People have been asking me for advice and it scares me! I always had you to fall back on. I still have years and years to go before I actually know anything. Well I hope you come back even if just for a quick check in to let me know you're okay. Take care and miss you lots.

Miss you
We took Morgan for another vet check up and her hematocrit was the best yet! The vet was so happy she was dancing! And on the way home we stopped for pine nuts for Morgan and ended up buying an african grey parrot. She was hatched on Dec. 18 and is a very cute little devil. We're the kind of people that should never go into pet stores. How's your fish kingdom? I'll catch up later, it's past bedtime.

Oh don't worry about not blogging, I was just worried about your well being. I know what you mean about doing this every day. I actually haven't the foggiest idea of what to write about most times because it's the same old routine at home day in and day out. I bore myself to tears, why do it to everyone else too? The remora has been up and running for about three weeks now and I can see some improvement. It turns out that what caused things to sour on me was a faulty digital thermometer. It was reading about eight degrees lower than the actual tank temp. So keeping the temp at around 78 to 80 or rather what I thought was 78 to 80 was really around 88. I pretty much cooked things without knowing what was wrong because I thought the temp was right where it was suppose to be. By chance I swapped thermometers with the 24g and was shocked. To prevent that from happening again I got a regular glass one that I can dip in for repeated checks. Yet another lesson learned. Your tank really must have progressed alot in this past year. I'd love to see more pictures whenever you feel like it. Any new creatures? The new lights are more of a crisp white color than blue tinged. The purple mushrooms that were advertised as blue are still purple. Well my friend, take care of yourself and talk to you when I do!

Anybody home?
Wow, it's been over a month since you've been here! I given it a bit of a break too. I hope all is well with you and you're not working too hard (which obviously you are). I got the aqua C up and running and it's doing a great job. It pulled out more in it's first day than the other peice of crap did in a week. The anemone has gone walkabout again behind the rocks where I can't see it or feed it, the dummy. Of course the clown went with it and I only see it when I put food in the tank. I got the new bulbs in too awhile ago. I screened for a couple weeks so nothing would get a sunburn. They seem a crisper white but I'm not seeing a bluish tinge. My mushrooms that were suppose to be blue when I ordered them are still purple. Miss Morgan has improved alot and is pretty much back to her old energetic obnoxiuos self which is good to see. We still have to take her every two weeks to have her hematocrit checked to see if her blood is too thick. She hasn't had to be bled out in about two months. The treatments seem to be working, kudos to her vet. Well my friend, I do hope you are okay and hope to hear from you sometime. All the best to you, Barbara and your tank.

Nice Article!!
You really should be proud of what you have accomplished and how much patience you have in designing you're new system. You're number one fan picked up and sent me the March addition of FAMA you really should send her a signed copy of your article! I don't even think I have to tell you who she is but I will it's Lizzy she is really special that's for sure! They really need to come out with a new FC award for her I could make a suggestion, Setup of Year! I really do like your setup and your article does give me some good ideas about using my basement as a control center but I would need a pump capable of pushing a good amount of water up to my living room. Having the fish in the living room has been a very good idea because it draws more attention then the TV it compete's with! I had a friend stop by this weekend and now he was talking about setting up a tank! I need some friends close by that are into Reef keeping and I believe that he is looking at starting out a FOWLR setup! I have to go too work now! I have so much to think about and to try and come up with a design on the new fish room. I would like to setup something so I could drian the sump and refill with a fresh water! I work as a mechanic and I have arthritis in my lower back and also my Right elbow has been giving me fits as well! Agian great setup!! Congradulations on becoming a celebrity you desreve it that's for sure!

As I was telling Lizzy, I've been bragging about my hang on Remora. Now the darn thing has stopped foaming! I took it out and cleaned it, but still nothing. I tried to adjust the white plastic screw, but it won't turn. Is that what I need to do? I may have to break it. The company has sent me a new screw a few years ago,(they said they made it different since I had bought mine)so I do have a back up. Thanks for any suggestions! Oh, I have been showing all my friends the article, all very impressed!

Greetings
In this country the brides family usually pays for the wedding but this girl is from Haiti and who over there has any money to that degree? The Haitian tradition is that the guests help pay for the wedding but even if they got a good chunk out of everyone there they'll still need lots more. Jack tried to persuade them to keep it within their means which would be a JP and a pup tent but they insisted on going all out. They aren't kids and they really ought to be more practical because she plans on having a litter of kids asap. She's 37 and he's 40. How about saving all that money for a house to put the kids in? I know I'm being a killjoy but I just see poor John working himself into an early grave to keep this girl's dreams alive. She's sweet and nice but VERY impractical and self centered. Enough whining! I'm glad you like the Iwasaki's, makes me feel better about ordering them. Still waiting on the skimmer. I hope it comes quick because I'm not getting anything out of the other at all. I'm afraid everything is getting poisoned. The damsel sends his best to you! Have a good one.

Hi
My lights are closing in on almost a year so I ordered a couple of Iwasaki 1400's. They were pricey but seemed to get better ratings than most of the others. I don't mind paying a few dollars more for quality. I should shield for awhile after putting them in right? A happy belated Valentine's day to you and Barbara. We spent ours at Jack's son's wedding. Okay so here's how it went.....Imagine you were a princess and you had a wedding. That's how it went! There were incredible floral arrangements at the church. She was late by about an hour so everyone was getting worried. There was a fancy carpet train or whatever you call them rolled up the isle for her to walk on and rose petals scattered on it. She had a gorgeous (and very expensive) dress with a long train. Jack was bushwhacked because he ended up in the wedding party escorting the groom and no one ever told us that was going to happen. It was even printed in the program and they never even warned us. I sat there by myself with all my friends, lol. I didn't know a soul. There were photographers and videographers and a choir. So we got through that then had to find our way to the reception at a Crowne Plaza which is quite glitzy. Then she had the pictures taken there in a private function room for nearly 2 hours while guests were fed hors derves. We were out with the other guests then were fetched to be in the pictures. I was beside myself! If we had known they were going to do this then we could have prepared better. We looked like Mr. and Mrs. Frump. Everyone else was in gowns and tuxes. Then to top it all off we were announced into the dining room with the wedding party after all the guests (about 200)were already seated and staring at us. I thought I would die!!!!! Then we had to line up on the dance floor as a backdrop for their first dance. When we got to sit and eat eventually was the best part of course. Filet minon and grilled jumbo shrimp. Champagne at every table and roses everywhere. Roses are so expensive this time of year. I don't envy them paying this all off. We gave them $500 as a wedding gift. We were spared the torture of having to do a dance in front of everyone. They kind of had to fast forward everything because of her tardiness at the church. They were on their fancy cruise today and plan on moving into an expensive apartment ($1200 a month probably not including utilities) when they return and buying all new furniture for it. I wonder how they plan to pay for all of this? They had said what they didn't get from guests they would put on a credit card. I think there's going to be a rude awakening from this princess dream. Only poor John will end up bearing the brunt of it. Not too practical when neither of them has a pot to piss in! Well my friend, time to go. Oh, I'm sending a copy of the magazine to Brian when he e-mails me his address so don't put the pins away quite yet, lol. I'm sure you'll hear from him.

The Rio it is then. I just placed my order. That's the one I had put in the shopping cart but didn't want to check out until I heard from you and I was waiting on my federal tax return and low and behold there it was today! Zip de dee doo dah! I just hope I can figure out how to get the thing together and working in the tank. I'm not too swift at gadgets. So are you going to post some pictures of the new corals either here or in the forum when you get a chance? What was that?... The damsel just told me that he wants to go live in uncle Perry's nice BIG tank so he can grow bigger and meaner, lol. He's having a hissy fit right now. Nothing else is new except a spell of warmer weather. Probably a calm before the next storm. Have a great evening, give my best to Barbara.

Okay the Remora it is! Only they have choices and that confuses me. If there was only one choice in everything, life would be so much easier....Do you recommend the Rio pump or the maxi jet? I was thinking of the Remora C Pro with the Rio 1400 pump which is for tanks 40-120g. It's a bit more expensive than the ones for tanks up to 70 gal but who knows when you may end up in a different place and upgrade tanks! I've been using the Reef Crystals for quite awhile so I'll stick with it since you say it's okay. I don't have a Gil so I get buckets from Dr's F & S when they're on sale. Your water changes are the same as my whole tank volume so you need a good break. Nice friend to have. The damsel is worse than ever. He's so mad at me he actually threatens me. He backs up to the glass and shakes his tail and fins at me. He's even picked up snails and thrown them at me. That all makes me laugh but the fun stops when he starts nipping my clam mantles. I think he knows it pisses me off so he keeps at it. I may have to warm up the frypan. Want him? He could build a fabulous super highway in your tank! And terrorize your fish too. Maybe if you're lucky he'll even chew your SPS's once he finds out you like them. Talk later.

Hey Hey. Thank you so uch for thew advice. I had many many friends look at it, and they decided that it would be an ok place for it. It is semi against a load bearing wall, and the back is running along a closed frame staircase to the basement on the otherside of the wall. I did have the aquarium put on my home owners insurance hehe.I know I know, I should do the tank in salt water. I work in a petstore, and I've been getting hell from everyone there, that it is just itching to be a saltwater aquarium. But... I have a 13 inch oscar, 2 16 inch pleco's, and 3 huge tinfoil barbs. Not to mention, and jack dempsy, and 2 other oscars that are going to be growing too. I've always been partial to a rainforrest theme aquarium. Thats what I am going to do with it. I hope to post some pics, or maybe video on youtube of it when it's done. Thanks for your help=)

Hi Nep
That is pretty impressive! They may have all the book smarts and alot of experience but you're still just as good as they are! I can't believe they make themselves available 24 hours a day. They must have dummies like me calling at all hours day and night. I piled the rocks back up but they just don't look the same. He does that again he may end up in a fry pan. I'm pretty sure he squished my blenny. Haven't seen it since the slide. Now my Seaclone protein skimmer isn't skimming and I just cleaned the whole thing out a week ago. The pump is working and I keep adjusting the O2 flow but no skimmate. It's the second one I've bought that's crapped out. I'm real limited as to space between the tank and wall. I think with tax money I'll get a new one. What do you think of the Remora AquaC's? They're narrow enough to fit. I also wanted to ask what kind of salt mix do you use? I was told by a reef store I should be testing for magnesium. I though that if you did regular water changes mineral stuff like that would be replenished. I have been using reef crystals. Should I change or is it okay? Back to your potential job change, have you mentioned anything to your boss? Do you think he'd be willing to give you a temporary leave of abscence for a few weeks to a month (or do you have enough vacation time) and try out working with Gil and Michelle to see if it's something you may want long term? Get your feet wet, pun intended. If it's not for you or the salary won't pay for the kid's school tuition and feed the wife and fish, back you go. I got the impression your boss likes you. Maybe he'll even offer you a big raise to stay! Like you said, opportunity. Time for birdie medicine which is also known as torture the cockatoo time!

Hey Nep
Aimen sounds like a real nice guy. I have similar genes myself. My father was from Italy and he had an arabian (not sure where from) grandmother. I have an Egyptian friend, a doctor that I work with. He's an extremely generous, quite an emotional and animated person. Of course more offers have to come pouring in just to make your decision more difficult. Ultimately it boils down to whats going to make you the happiest and most secure feeling I guess. With your talents you would do well in the reef business. You should be the boss though, not working for someone else who probably knows alot less than you do. If you did, you'd probably end up getting frustrated. A 10,000g tank! That's not a tank, it's a swimming pool! I'm surprised a pharmecutical compay would build such a thing in this ecomomy. The've been under fire about the price of medicines for quite awhile now. Speaking of large tanks, I saw a program on TV last night about the Okinanwa aquarium. It's fabulous! The have a tank large enough for three whale sharks and manta rays. It's the coolest one I've seen. Too bad it's so far away in Japan. They even showed the corals that were so happy they were spawning away in the tank. I think it was the Discovery channel that it was on. Check it out if you get the chance. I though you would make a fine director of the place! Don't wear yourself out or cause a cranial bleed in trying to decided what to do. Things will fall into place I'm sure. Take care.

I was cleaning a fresh water tank for an office, but had to give it up. With my jobs, I had no time to do it. (plus they only had $20 a month in their budget for it) Just not worth it. I have two tanks of my own, you can get burnt out of it if you do it to much. I see in the article you used auto CAD. My son is taking CAD in the tech high school his is going to. I'll have to show him the magazine so he can see yet another application for CAD. Nice 'blogging 'to you, hope to hear from you!

Do you get free food at the restauraunt for life, haha! That's pretty neat what you did. I have a feeling though that if you take on your hobby as a full time business that you'll get worn out and not enjoy it as much. Isn't that the reason you consolidated to one tank too for the most part? Plus the job you have now seems like a pretty safe one. When you retire may be a good time to do an aquarium type business. Of course these are just opinions. No one would be better at an aquarium business than you of course. I'd just hate to see you get burned in this hellish economy. When you stock the restauraunt tank, he pays for the corals right? If you keep taking care of that one there's a free frag source for you! Keep buying what you want for your own tank and have at it as it grows. I spent my day off trying to restore order in my tank. I had a small avalanche thanks to that darn damsel and his digging. He decided to build himself a super highway from one end of the tank to the other. Cursed be that day that Jack bought him!!!!! He's mad at me (the damsel, not Jack) and has been glaring at me all night. Too bad, so sad. Hope you don't mind that I sent Monster Fish Keeper to you but I knew you'd know the answer. Hey Hey So I talked to Lizzy Limpet, and she told me I should ask you my question. By the way, your aquarium pics are gorgeous. I just purchased a 180. Will it be ok? I'm hoping my floor will hold it up. The back of the tank would run along a wall that on the other side of it is a staircase going to the basement. The right side of it would be against a load bearing wall, and the left side would have some space, then the doorway to the front door.PLease let me know if you think this would be ok here. Thanks. Hey Nep
Has Barbara popped any pins in your head yet to deflate it, hehe. I don't know if you've ever watched South Park but there's a cartoon characture named Mr. Mackey who's head inflated like a huge balloon and he floated around the town. That's what I though of when you said your head got big. I joined that RFI and recieved a bumper sticker in the mail today and the return address was none other than your friend David Lass. He lives up here in Mass. too. I'm sending a copy of the magazine to Reeffreak. She couldn't find it and wants to read the article. I'm sure you'll hear from her so tell Barbara to keep the pins handy. Maybe she'll have to upgrade to railroad spikes after all the thread responses in the forum. Did you get any new stock yet? I came home from the store today to find a corner of the tank re-arranged and some coral upset. I know it was that darn damsel. He's even been dragging clams around. He loves to irritate me. If my clownfish didn't love it I think he'd be relocated by now. Speaking of strange relationships, have you ever heard of a featherduster hosting a clownfish before? It's happening in the 24g tank and the duster dosen't seem to mind at all. Usually they're so skittish that they're in their tubes if you look at them the wrong way. Take care, reef god.

Glad you finally got to read it! Can't wait for the follow-up article. Hope David has got the message by now. Did you show it to your co-workers? Bet they're impressed now that you're a celebrity! The 24g tank seems to be doing better than the 45g and I spend less attention on it. Things are thriving and spreading in it. Go figure. The sally crab climbed over the top into the sump part of it and we can't catch him. I guess he's going to have to climb his butt back over. Any ideas on what you're going to stock next? I'm done till this darn bird gets better. They can't figure out how to get rid of this allergic respiratory problem she has. Happy hunting anyways. Wish I could vote more than once a day for you. Hail to the reef god
You deserve the compliments! You've done a very awesome job and well deserve the recognition. It's in the March issue. It's got a picture of an adorable pair of dragonlets on the cover. You start on page 44. We actually had work to do today. There is suppose to be news tommorrow also of who we're going to merge or get taken over by. We'll see, we've heard that song before. Did you get any new corals or fish for Christmas? We didn't exchange anything because Morgan has just about tapped us dry. She's going to have to go out and get a job too soon. She can stand out in front of Walmart with a sign. Pictures with me, $5. I really want to get 15,000K bulbs but I guess I'll have to wait until these 10,000K's run their course. Do you suggest replacement at 1 year? I wish I could see yours and Barbara's faces when you see your article. Take care my friend.

Autographs?!!!!
Drumroll and standing ovation! I was so excited to see the article. What a nice one it is too! That copy will stay in my posession forvever. Congratulations again and again. I hope that David will do a follow-up article too when you're fully stocked. He's obviously very impressed as is the whole entire fish community by now. You're famous!! I had to write you right away after I read it. You da bomb! Here's what I wrote to the editor of FAMA, "I enjoyed the article of David Lass's FAMA's March issue about Perry Eason's reef set-up. I would love to see an eventual follow-up article when his fabulous reef set-up is fully stocked and finished to his satisfaction. Outstanding! Thanks for a great article." Have fun basking in the glory, goodnight!

Hey Nep
Sorry for the lapse but I have just been feeling like crap. I really haven't gotten much done at all. Just getting to work and back has takes it's toll. I'm feeling better though. Lots of crap going around. Seems like you just start getting over one bug when another smacks you while you're still down. Nice ice storm this morning and I decided to stay home. Looks like I dodged a potential bullet too because there were so many accidents on the news. The cars were encrusted with about a half inch of ice. Since I have to leave for work at around 5:15 AM, I just couldn't deal with it. I called my boss and asked if I could work a different day instead. I didn't feel too bad because we had no cases on the schedule today anyway. I didn't want to do a hundred mile round trip on ice to do nothing all day. He didn't mind. I have the longest commute out of anyone else who works there. I finally got to do a tank water change. My poor tank creatures have suffered and I feel bad. I ran out of mixed water and the tank's running at about an inch below normal. Boy was there alot of mineralization at the bottom of the mix barrel which is 30 gal, even with two powerheads running all the time. We usually keep topping it off so it hasn't been at the bottom for a long time. I dumped the last 5 gallons because it looked so cloudy and gooky. I cleaned out the barrel but couldn't get all the encrusted sediment out. I'll have to use it all up and rinse out the entire barrel much more frequently. Just noticed that my bumblebee snails are holding another union meeting. They do that every now and then. They all get together in a group and huddle for awhile then go their own ways. Strange. I don't think they're breeding because they aren't increasing in numbers that I can see. I've got some little conch snails though that came in as hitch hickers that are breeding like rabbits. Thanks god they're really small. Enough blabbing for today! Take care.

Happy New Year!
Lets hope for a much better one this year. Have you ever heard of a featherduster hosting a clownfish? That's what's going on in the 24g tank. Usually the featherdusters are so darn skittish nothing can go neat them without them zipping up tight into their tubes as you know. This little clownfish flounders all about in the crown and the duster tolerates it. I think it might even like it! He never retracts from it. It's the strangest thing. Morgan ended up having another agonal breathing episode and off we went to the vet again. She ended up in an oxygen ICU pen for the whole day in between diagnostic tests. We were there for eight hours. We were sent home with a bronchodilator and a nebulizer machine. She gets closed into a storage tote and gets gassed two to three times a day. Well my friend, best wishes for you and your family this new year.

Wow!
You just sang me the perfect song! Of course none of that will come true, lol. The birds (the big ones anyways) scream, not sing. My tank has not been the happiest either but maybe you well wishes will make everything flourish. I hope all your wishes come true also. It was a long day.....you take care.
