Merry Christmas my dear friend!! I am on a 6 day vacation from work. So I thought I would pop on here to say hello. I have missed you so much. Anything new in your world? I still have an angel tank going. But have switched my other tanks over to cichlids now. Really enjoy them. Oh and the guppy bowl. I thought I was done with them. I had one female left last summer. Just cleaned their house and there are over 100 in there. Geezzz.Take care my friend!!!

You have not been on here for 156 days!!! And I thought I was bad. If you ever read this, I am on vacation this week. Have 9 days off. Yippee!! Just got back from Minnesota for 4 days. It was a girls trip. We had so much fun. Got lots of shopping in. Found a lot of stores with 70% off. So I bought lots more stuff than I would normally had. I will try to call you this weekend. Seems like forever since we have talked. Hugs...

Happy New Year and all good wishes to you and your familia! Its been a long time. I’ve been very busy at work and with the New Year comes new responsibilities. SO I’m trying to strike a good balance between work, play, and home. I bet a white Christmas is more in line with the traditional American view of a white Christmas. IN the southern hemisphere, in Argentina, Southern Africa and Australia, we all celebrate it in summer. I guess the animals can sense it coming. Out here elephants and rhinos seem to know where the rain is going to fall. Interestingly, in Thailand when the Tsunami of 2006 struck, the animals sensed it and sought higher ground. They have that instinct and ability to hear and smell things outside our sensory limitations. Horses too know when the rain is coming and they love it. They’re definitely more vibrant and active. Out here, the best places to visit are the East Coast, West Coast and the Lowveld. It’s wonderful out in Cape Town this time of year. Durban is too hot and steamy, the Lowveld is also hot and steamy, but both places are beautiful and offer lovely site seeing and both Durban an Cape Town have great beaches, surf spots and cool places to visit. Oh I think I will come over in winter most likely, if I do ever visit. I take leave around February so it should still be cold up north. But it won’t be such a big sacrifice. We have summery weather for most of the year, its really mid winter that it can get cold. Glad to hear that Lulu is well. What does your daughter do in Hong Kong? Must be a very interesting place. My folks got back from their holiday in India and I gather that they had a good trip, but not everything about India is pleasant. For starters, their hygiene and cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Their transportation is chaotic and congested, whether you fly, take a cab, or a train. Water is not pure there and you really got to live on bottled water. Food is very spicy, too spicy even for my parents’ Indian heritage. But worse were the rats and snakes and other critters that live there. We’re from Africa and perhaps my mom and dad thought they saw it all. Nope, their experience in India is something I think they will always cherish, but at the same time they told us that we must be grateful for what we got. I think the poverty and squalor got to them…My mom and dad don’t like my snakes much either and its for that reason I had to accommodate them in my store room. And the fact that they eat foot long rats, that doesn’t go down well with my mom especially. I know Black ghost knife fish pretty well. They do grow quite large, mine is around a foot in length. I love the way the fin undulates like a screw, and the way it backs up and darts forward. They are something special… Although they are predators, if you grow them up with smaller fish as well as keeping them well fed, they should be fine. Take care and all the best to you and your family for the new year. Cheers! Stokes

Hello there!
Thank you so much for the vote towards setup of the month and comment! Green spotted puffers don't do so well in community tanks, if you value your fishies fins, than it probably wouldn't be a good idea to add a puffer ;) I LOVE your tank! It's nicely aquascaped too! Thanks for stopping by! Here's a vote fr you too!

Hello J! Sincerely hope you are enjoying the holidays! I'm at work and I have been working on emergency stuff that we were hoping would not surface now during this period. Otherwise, the tanks are looking good and my fish are all well. The snakes are also doing fine. They have been voraciously eating these past couple of months and the heat is causing this. I gave them a supplement to help keep their stomachs in good shape along with a multivitamin. My daughter is well; she is staying at my granny’s place. My folks left for India on Sunday evening. My youngest uncle and his wife live there, so my kid will be fine playing with her young uncles and aunts. She is so fortunate to have experienced having a great granny. One day I can tell her about it to remind her how precious old folk are. Its extremely hot down here with intermittent rain and apart from today, it has been baking us, so hot and sticky. I think New Years Day will be a scorcher. Nothing like a day beside the pool. It’s been so hot down here, I’ve had the fish tank heaters off on all my setups, turned the basking lamp and heat mat off in the snake tanks and I even drop a couple of blocks of ice in there in the evening. I’ve been reading about the weather out your way. It’s hectic. It’s probably the one factor that keeps us from emigrating out to the US, UK or Europe. I couldn’t live like that. I’d be horribly miserable. Our winters by comparison are not really that bad. We never get snow, only twice in my lifetime have I seen snow. I guess if you grow up with it, it’s not so bad. I received your Christmas greeting and by the same token I wish to express my regret at not wishing you in due time. I apologise sincerely for that. But at the same time the new year is upon us and I want to wish you and your loved ones a great new year. Lets hope it brings much success, peace and prosperity to you and yours. take care and be safe! Cheers! Stokes

Hi Lady! Gee I hadn't been on your page for so long. But I see that you haven't been on for a long time either. Snow snow snow. I am getting real tried of it already. Toms' son called last night and he wants me to come get him so he can stay with us for a few days. So I get off at noon on Wednesday. If the roads are good I will go get him. It was so bad here this weekend. Blizzard like conditions. They even postponed Tom's work Christmas party. He was so looking forward to going. But then anytime he can get out of the house, he is more than ready. Well I just wanted to wish my fish buddy a Merry Christmas. I'll talk to you soon. Rhonda

Hi Jane! I haven't been on your page for awhile, so I thought I better stop by. Looks like you haven't been on here either. Well my trip out to Walmart cost me $56. I got 2 heaters and 2 new back grounds for a couple of my tanks. I didn't realize heaters cost that much. Oh well, I needed them. I have them in tanks now. The one in the guppy tank is working fine. It's got the water warmed up to 76. That's probably good enough for that tank. But I put the one in the platy tank (grow tank) and the light has not come on yet. The temp is down to 72 so it should come on. I am watching the thermometer on the tank, as it might be working and the light could be messed up. Well you know me. Nothing ever seems to go smoothly. Well if you read this soon, have a wonderful trip. I am so excited for you. Vote.

Live Bearers
So, I like your setup, but have a question about mixing the live bearers with the egg layers. Do you allow the fry to be eaten by the larger fish? How do you deal with this problem? Or, do you consider it part of the natural process? Thanks for visiting me and chiming in on my tank. ~vote4u~

Well to be honest. I enjoy my skunk loaches. In the River Acheron, the skunk is kept a normal tone by the pair of Kribs and the redtail shark. In the River Styx setup, i have 2 skunk loaches who only terrorize each other. The pair of Kribs in that setup run the aquarium, so peace is usually controlled. The one thing I like about skunks, is their hunger for trumpet snails. which where brought in accidentally. Yes, they have controlled the population explosion. Well, Take care my friend. Have a great weekend!! Left a vote!!

Yebo, sanibona! Kunjani? (how are you?) Estoy bien! Well, in Mozambique its Portuguese and Xitsonga that are fused into one culture. The season has changed to Spring and its very hot, dry, windy and pretty dusty. Its not good for the throat and sinuses and so I’ve been battling along. I smoke too, which doesn’t help. I know its bad, perhaps one day I will quit. The family are all well. My daughter is doing great and my wife too. Sure sounds like an early winter for y’all. The colours must be amazing, I love it too in the Autumn, as we call the Fall here. Poor Lulu, I hope she doesn’t get too cold. The fish are well, though I had some sick discus last week. Its every discus keepers nightmare, a disease called Chlidonella. So far most have responded to treatment, except for a cobalt blue adolescent. I hope he makes it. Sheena, my grey rat snake, has been eating rather well now that her fast over the winter is broken. My Taiwanese Beauty is still hibernating, even in this heat. She will moult once and then she will begin to eat. Roberto is well, he is doing good with regard to the work he does. In his spare time he has visited places of interest here, like Sun City, Kruger National Park, Bela-bela, Zululand, Durban and Cape Town. He is enjoying it here. I’m sorry it took so long to reply. Truth is I was not well. I suffer from bi-polar disorder and sometimes I have episodes. Well this last one felt like an epic saga, but I’m getting better day by day. I’ve learned to live with it and it’s a lifelong thing so I will always have it. Treatment does help. I sincerely wish that you and your wonderful family are all well! Take care umgane wami (my friend)! Ni Sale Kahle (Stay well/fare well). Stokes

sorry about the death of your fishy. any idea what happened? Rufus was the big one in his litter. i was trying to help a friend get a pup. my exboyfriend's sister raised them. so we would go over there every week. i wasnt looking for a pup, especially not a small one. he was climbing out of the playpen at 2 weeks and over the kiddie gate. he was just too cool. he weighs about 10 pounds and thinks he weighs 150. he jumps up to bite the big dogs here. i keep him cut short. no long hair frufru stuff for him. my tank is doing ok. big butt goldies keep pulling the plants up. but i just replant them. hope you have a great weekend. talk at ya later, Kay

Just doing a little blogging so thought I would say hi and leave off a vote. We had a water pipe break last night in the night. What a mess. It was under the kitchen sink with no shut off. So we have all the water shut off. Perks of renting,,, the landlord is here now. He is going to put in a new faucet for me along with new plumbing under the sink. He has known that I have wanted a new faucet for some time. He even joked with me that I get my wish today. I hope that it doesn't take him long to fix this as I really do need to get some laundry done. I can't cook dinner either til he is out of there. Talk to you later.

Hi J! Thanks for the vote. Nice to hear that you will be visiting Florida! Good on your son! I’m a sucker for the ocean too. We stay about 6 hours away from the closest shoreline. Florida featured some time ago on one of the travel programs on TV. It looks beautiful! And Miami looks like a place I would sure like to visit. Here too, in the middle of winter it would be cold up here and in Durban on the east coast its warm like summer. Your son’s love is admirable! Full honours there. The monkeys were in their numbers there. We had a troop pass by every morning and evening. They are so accustomed to having humans around, and they frequently try and steal food from the locals. We were warned to lock our windows when we go out. They are not at all dangerous, I haven;’t heard of them attacking humans. Baboons, now those are another bunch. I was glad they were not around. They are more opportunistic and have known to attack humans, especially children. When we went to Cape Point some years back, there were many. But there are guards on hand with tazers that stun the baboons if they misbehave. In that region, the baboons raid homes, terrorise the kids and pets, especially dogs. They steal the washing from the line and misbehave, some of the residents shoot them. Its in that area that the Portuguese sailor Bartholamew Diaz landed and posted a cross there, where he christened the Cape ‘Cabo de boa esperanca’, Cape of Good Hope in the 1490s’ He never quite made it to India, but the next voyage under Vasco da Gama did. How’s the weather in Wyoming this time of year? I was just wondering if you guys are getting any signs of winter yet. Its warming up quite nicely, today is around 82F. Should be a lovely weekend. Its rather windy and dusty this time of year. Take care. Kind regards, Stokes

I edited my last blog. Better safe than sorry. Just got back from the store. A small bag of potatoes were $4. What is going on?!?!?! I use a whole bag when I make potato salad. I'm not making that this week. Eggs have been $1.79 and today they were 50 cents a dozen. I got 4. Plan to make devil eggs with our supper. Plus I will use 4 in the pea salad. Tom and I both like egg salad sandwiches. So while I am boiling, I will boil extra for a batch. They go good in his lunch once in awhile. Ok later girl. I have 26 emails to read that are funnies. Wow it sounds like you are going to have a wonderful vacation. Good for you!! You deserve some R & R. I am very excited for you. You can swing by Iowa and I will try to fit into one of your suit cases. LOL It is a beautiful day here. I got lots done around the house. Hit a few yard sales. Bought some newborn girls cloths (with Yonkers tags still on them) for 50 cents a piece. One piece was a snow suit. Pink and gray. Has White snowmen on it. Got a little purple pants and top with cute little bows. I was real happy. Brand new stuff. With a Dec. baby girl coming, we can use this warm stuff. I rented a couple movies. I can keep them til Monday, so I haven't been in a big hurry to get them watched. We bought a new flat screen tv last weekend. So it will be nice to watch the movies on it. I don't needle point. My eyes get so tired right away when I try to do that. I am very far sighted. I use to oil paint years ago. I was getting pretty good at it. I really liked it too. I might do that again when I retire. I use to make corn husk dolls. That was a long time ago too. I don't even have any left. Actually I was pretty crafty til my boys came along. Then I didn't have time for any of that. My boys are 14 months apart. So I had my hands full for a few years. Well I better go. I'll talk to you later. I am so glad that the make up thing went ok for you. It sounds kind of risky and I was a little worried about it. There would be no room for mistakes. LOL I know what you mean, I had got my hair cut and my husbands friend said to me nice haircut. Then Tom looked and said that Mark just beat him to saying it. What ever. I knew that he didn't notice. I had a great time with the girls. Wish we would have planned to have stayed an extra day. Last weekend I got to see both my boys. Tyler on Saturday and then Cody on Sunday. I had so much to do Sunday, but once Blaine got here, well lets just say he kept Grandma busy. He is such a sweetie pie. When they had him, they said that was it. But they are already saying stuff about the next one. Our paper has lots of yard sales in it for this weekend. Tom has to work, so I should be able to get to some of them. I am looking forward to it. I'll talk to you later. Vote.
