That's a very nice set up, welcome to the site and to reef keeping. One of the things I've learned in 7 yrs of marine aquarium keeping is to leave the tank alone when trouble starts. Trouble as of stuff growing everywhere. Keep up with H20 changes, add a cleaning crew and nature will take care of things. No need to add chemicals to take care of stuff. If you plan on corals then of course you'll need calcium, magnesium etc. I'm sure your brother has excellent advice for you and by the look of your pic you've got a good start. Great job!!

nice little world
Salt is so much fun and colorful too. I had one for many years until the yellow damsels spawned and killed everyone in their pursuit for happiness. Water changes with same temp/salinity is always good to remember! Welcome to the site

just a rookie
I just converted from freshwater just over 3 months ago. My brother has been trying to get me to convert for bout 3 years now..... I'm so glad i finally listened to him, I should have a long time ago! He has been a reefer for about 4 yrs. If anyone has any tips or info they liked to share bout reef keeping I'd love to hear it. Im always open to advice, specially since im still just a rookie at this!

Come visit me, Rookiereefer.
