My Fish Blog

Hello again!
You asked in December how my platy babies were doing. I can tell you now that MOST look to have the dwarf coral as mom and the red-tailed dalmation as dad. They're dark orange but with black spots - so cool! I have 2 that I'm pretty sure are the final birthing of my neon platy Chunkybutt before she died. They look just like her. The babies are doing well and are adding lots of activity to my 20 gal. My little tank that they started in now houses cherry shrimp and one new platy baby that looks like the offspring of our newest platy who is a blue wagtail platy.

Come visit me, Fluval Edge 6, 29 Gallon - Main tank, Fluval Spec II, 20 Gallon Long & Fluval Spec V.

My platy fry are still going strong. There's 19 of them I think. They're good eaters and are developing color. Most look like a dark orange but there are a few that are darker and one that's a light gold color. I think it was my dwarf coral platy named Rosie that gave birth, and she's definitely orange. I had a male dwarf coral platy (he died suddenly and mysteriously though), named Red, so some of the babies could be from one of the other moms but be his offspring. Red never went near Rosie though, so I don't think they mated. I'm hoping the dad of Rosie's babies is Speckles, the red-tailed dalmation platy. I'm curious to see if he'll pass on his spots to a new generation of fish :)
