Hello, this is going out to many of you. My big Green carpet seems to be splitting.(See new photo)(Last one) The Anemone is looking very healthy and has eaten the last few feedings. (including today) I know from the Sprung and Delbeck (Vol two page 402) that it can longitudinally split. Does anyone know step by step how this is done. So far it still only has on mouth and I assume that it has to create a new mouth before the final split can take place. Does this take days, weeks, or months? If any one can help with these questions please feel free to share your knowledge. Here's a vote for all. Save the Reef!! DavidCome visit me, IBARKALOT.

How are you Tony? Lost my last clam, damn! Hey that rhymes. I swear the hermit crabs have been murdering them. It was fine then I looked over and the crabs were chowing down. It happened with some of the others too. Fine then poof! Morgan the macaw is raging with hormones and the only one she wants to hang around with is the cockatoo. The rest of us in the family she seems to hate right now. She attacked me and bit both my hands tonight. It hurt so bad it brought tears to my eyes. Just doing a few blogs, the typing is making my bandaged fingers throb. I read that this behavior may go on for six weeks. If she keeps this bad behavior up she may get stuffed and roasted and served with orange raisin sauce, lol. That's enough typing and throbbing for me tonight. TGIF!Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hi Tony Checking in on you Mr. Clam. What's been going on? You've been silent for quite awhile. I hope you haven't given us up. I appreciate all your advice and input. The tank is slowly recovering from the overheat. Coralline algae is starting to come back strong. Unfortunately down to one clam. Hope things are going well for you. Yay spring!Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hello! Just stopping by wish I had the 3700 for the Solaris lights I have been shopping around for lighting and I have found some reasonable LED lights but they are not powerful enough they would work for now because I only have soft corals but it would not do any good if I want to get SPS corals which I am at that point now! Well time to go now, leaving you a vote!Come visit me, John's Turtles & Brian's Salt Tank.

Hi Thanks for the nightmare idea! He's just become such an interesting creature that we'll keep him as a pet. He dosen't have to serve any other purpose. Maybe when the striped bass are in......I could probably catch a whopper with him. Maybe he'd be eating the fish instead. Maybe I'll propagate some of the others and give them to you. A few frags, a worm....or two! Nice day today but the crap will be coming in overnight. Went to the vet again today for a birdie blood check and all is well for now. Back in two weeks. Have a great rest of the weekend.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hey Tony You want to talk worms? I've got a 10g tank in the back room that has hundreds of worms in it. Also that big bristleworm that I caught in the larger tank. I think I told you about him before. He disappeared for a couple months and we thought he croaked but how wrong we were! He finally showed up again and he's ENORMOUS. I've never seen such a big worm. He can wrap totally around the tank and is close to an inch thick. He's so darn big I don't know how he hides. I definately don't want to put my hands in there without gloves. There are a couple peppermint shrimp in there too and I saw the worm steal an algae disk from one. Pretty interesting creature. He's become a novelty. I almost got a picture of him the other night but he houdini'ed before I got the camera out. We call him the sea serpent. Have a good one T.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hey Lobo How are you? Happy spring to you. Do you have any of those little tiny white starfish? They aren't the little brittle stars but little mutant regular looking starfish. Both the 24g and the 45g have them. Not one has a complete set of legs. They range from 1 leg to around seven counting nubs. That's why I call them mutants. They're the strangest things. They must have come out of the live rock because we sure has heck didn't put them in. It's time to go to sleep, goodnight.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hi Tony I found the temperature discrepancy just by chance. The thermometer had been consistantly reading 78-79 so I had no thoughts about it. I don't know what made me switch thermometers with the 24g tank but I just did and that's when I saw the difference in the readings. I'm going to get a backup one to dip in at regular intervals to check for differences. That was an expensive malfunction. The nitrates are still on the high side. Do you run your eheim with or without substrate? Your rock formation sound ideal but wouldn't work in mine. As I mentioned , it's so narrow of a tank each piece of rock almost touches front to back. It's really a horrible tank setup for what I'm trying to do. If I had known I wanted to eventually try reefing I would have gotten a completely different setup. It was what I had as a freshwater tank switched to fish only salt. How's your dog doing? Tell him there may be more snow on Sunday. That'll make him happy or is he sick of it all too like the rest of us, lol? Talk to you later.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hi T I think he's making too much of a mess in the tank. He sends up clouds of sand. I have cut way back on my feedings. I used to feed the corals regularly and stopped doing that while the nitrates are up. I found out my thermometer was not reading properly too. What I thought was about 78-79 was actually in the mid 80's according to a new thermometer. It probably cooked some of the corals. I think one of my main problems is that the darn tank is too narrow and there's alot of dead space in the back that I can't help. It's only a foot wide. I had to stack the rock pretty much up against the back wall. I've got 4 korelia pumps going with a wavemaker but they seem to be sticking alot. I'm going to have to dismantle them and clean the impellars I guess. I should take a week off work just to try to straighten out the tank! I wish I had room for a bigger tank but it's not in the cards yet. This little hovel is crammed packed already. The whole neighborhood used to be a community of beach houses so they're pretty much winterized shacks. Oh, I have a Coralife RO/DI 3 stage unit too. I'm going to do another water change tommorrow. I think the dummy has disturbed too much in the sandbed and upset the filtration. He's made big trenches. I spend most nights yelling at him and shaking my finger at him. He just throws snails at me. Have a good one my friend, talk later.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hey Tony I think some of the nitrate problem can be blamed on that awful damsel. His digging has disturbed the sandbed. I'm not sure what kind he is. He started off as a cute silver juvenile with a yellow stripe on his back and blue pectoral fins. Now he's a 3 inch black monster who may reach half a foot. I've never seen such a nasty fish other than maybe a blue fish. I wish we had known better when we bought him. I removed the substrate from the canister filter in stages too because that can be a nitrate factory. I've been doing more frequent water changes too but it isn't helping fast enough. I just found out too that my thermometer was off and the tank was alot warmer than I thought it was too. I do have some clams. I lost a few as well as some coral. I hope everything straightens out soon. I hate to think of how much money I've lost! So I won't, lol. How are the new lights working out? Any problems with them? I wish they'd come down in price some. I hate dealing with the heat of the halides in the summer. Hope your weekend has been a good one. Take care my friend.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hi Good to hear from you! I was actually in your neck of the woods today. A wedding reception at the Crowne Plaza on Rt. 9. Boy have things changed a whole bunch since I was around! I didn't even recognize the Shopper's world and I used to work at the general cinema there when I was a kid a long....long....really long time ago. The whole place is so different. Do they still have the Tropic Isle fish store on 9 heading west? I used to love going there and actually got my first aquarium there. I'm glad your sea squirts are doing well My tank is not doing well. I've been battling nitrates and phosphates and my damsel fish. He had been doing alot of digging and caused a rockslide and hasen't been helping my cause at all. He's mad at me because I've blocked off some favorite passageways of his. He throws snails at me at shakes his fins and tail at me. He's lucky he hasn't hit the frying pan yet. Your bowling league sounds like fun. Alot tamer that what we used to do as kids, lol. Hey Lobo Cool on the sea squirt. Aren't they the same thing as tunicates? I had some brown tunicates that came in as hitch hickers but they died when I had a nitrate spike. I overfed. They're very picky about water quality. I wish you fabulous luck with them. Yes it's been quite the nasty winter. We've had the bad stuff and Alaska is getting the warmer weather we used to have. I remember not to long ago when we had spring bulbs coming up in February. Not this year! How's the bowling coming along? Do they still have the Natick Fairway? I think that was the name of the bowling alley my parents used to take us to when we were kids. Are you in a league? I was never very good at it. Too klutzy. Well my friend, you take care. Vote.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hi there Save me some of those frags buddy! Keep em proliferating. I have just been feeling like crap. I really haven't gotten much done at all. Just getting to work and back has takes it's toll. I'm feeling better though. Lots of crap going around. Seems like you just start getting over one bug when another smacks you while you're still down. Nice ice storm this morning and I decided to stay home. Looks like I dodged a potential bullet too because there were so many accidents on the news. The cars were encrusted with about a half inch of ice. Since I have to leave for work at around 5:15 AM, I just couldn't deal with it. I called my boss and asked if I could work a different day instead. I didn't feel too bad because we had no cases on the schedule today anyway. I didn't want to do a hundred mile round trip on ice to do nothing all day. He didn't mind. I have the longest commute out of anyone else who works there. I finally got to do a tank water change. My poor tank creatures have suffered and I feel bad. I ran out of mixed water and the tank's running at about an inch below normal. Boy was there alot of mineralization at the bottom of the mix barrel which is 30 gal, even with two powerheads running all the time. We usually keep topping it off so it hasn't been at the bottom for a long time. I dumped the last 5 gallons because it looked so cloudy and gooky. I cleaned out the barrel but couldn't get all the encrusted sediment out. I'll have to use it all up and rinse out the entire barrel much more frequently. Just noticed that my bumblebee snails are holding another union meeting. They do that every now and then. They all get together in a group and huddle for awhile then go their own ways. Strange. I don't think they're breeding because they aren't increasing in numbers that I can see. I've got some little conch snails though that came in as hitch hickers that are breeding like rabbits. Thanks god they're really small. Enough blabbing for today! Take care.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hey Clammie Happy New Year! I sure hope this one beats last year. I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. The vet had one last week when we were there and she hugged me twice. I think we've become her favorite people so I get hugs on arrival and departure. She's on salary there so I know it's not from all the money we've spent, lol.So I laid low, getting up late and slugging around the whole day. Jack played his video games all day then got real ambitious and cleaned both of the big bird cages and their surrounding areas. I was quite surprized. Left work early yesterday because of the snow and even so, it was a two hour trip home. There was already three inches on the ground when I left Rhode Island around 11:45. Lots of fender benders already because people are idiots and still speed and tailgate. At least I got home unscathed. As for fish talk, I seem to be missing another chromis. The finger leather coral died. I had moved it into the 24g tank when it started looking distressed but the move seems to have finished it off. I guess I'll do another water change tommorrow and hope for better luck. Enjoy what's left of the holiday.Come visit me, Lizzy Limpet.

Hi Lobo How's it going lately? My plate coral just died. It was doing so well and had grown alot. Things got neglected a bit when I had surgery and it turned the corner and went belly up. Whaaaa....I really loved that one. I hadn't taken pictures of it yet. Guess I never will. Fish are all fine though. The silly black damsel and the clownfish continue they're bizarre love affair. Also moved all the soft corals to my other two tanks so that this tank now contains only LPS & SPS corals. BY THE WAY Nice Clams. Here's a vote.Come visit me, Fish Art & Fish Art Frag Tank.
