Invasion!
Oh well... I guess it was too good to be true. I've gone about 2 weeks with the plants and everything was perfect. Finally yesterday, I spotted a handful of snails, and everytime I looked there were a few more. I knew I had to nip this invasion in the but before my tank was overrun so I decided to get myself a clown loach for the moment to take on those snails. I acclimated him and got him in the tank and he snuck off into the cave I have setup for the cichlids that are forthcoming. Wouldn't budge out of the cave until the lights were off. However, this morning, I couldn't find a single snail in the tank. Looks like the clown had himself a feast overnight! Wish I could watch him in action. I'm now considering getting some of that moonlighting for my tanks to add a more natural moon cycle to the tank as well. Did anyone ever mention this can become an expensive hobby?

Cycle Update
Well, the cycle is progressing along quickly. I think the plants, Bio-Spira and cycle all helped keep everything progressing within too much stress, even with the filter changes, etc. I did take some gravel from my other tank and place it in a filter bag and float it in this tank to help. So far, Ammonia is sitting at nearly 0, Nitrites are at .05 max and Nitrates are also about 0-10ppm only. I'm having a bit of an Algea issue and my Bristle-Nose Pleco could care less about it. Hopefully he comes around and decides to help clean some of it up.

Quiet!
Wow, I can't believe how quiet the new setup is! The only thing I hear is actually the air bubbles as they pop on the surface and I'm not exagerating. Nothing else new to report at the moment however, still waiting cycle results to see how the system is fairing.

New Equipment, pt. 2
I've installed all the new equipment and everything is going well. The Eheim is flowing smoothly with no leaks and the Hydor ETH heater is keeping the water temp perfectly set. I've added three Serpea tetra's to see how the fishless cycling went as the water seems to have stabilized. If all goes well, those will be moved over to the tropical tank and the chiclids will come in. I have also thrown in a Bristle-nosed Pleco to assist with the algea control.

New Equipment
Well, my new toys have come in and I'll be placing the canister filter and in-line heater in over the weekend. (See updated list above.) I'm also going to redesign the plants a bit and will see how that works out. That will be sometime next week. So far the fishless cycle is progressing slowly and I'll throw a fish or two in there to see how stable the aquarium is currently. The bio-spira seems to have stablized the cycle almost instantly. We'll see! Once all is said and done, there'll be pictures.

Intro
Well, just posted in my other tank blog as well and might as well post here as well. I'm currently in the process of cycling this tank. This was originally my Tropical Fish tank; however, it was sittin empty once I upgraded to the 30 Tall show tank. I've decided to make this a planted cichlid tank and will keep everyone updated on the progress. You can see my current setup and plants above. I'm in the process of replacing the HOB filter with a Eheim 2213 Canister Filter and will be replacing the generic air pump with a Whisper Model 40. This should all occur in the next week. Cycling is going good and the plants are hanging in. Hopefully will be able to add the fish soon. I'll post once I've created a list of what I am considering to add. I just have to be careful to pick some plant friendly Cichlids!
