yea we're all excited around here today, nice breeze and temps are to be in the high 80's. I am not a fan of summer, heat is too much work! Been busy with inside and outside chores, I'm ready for a nap! The one nice thing about our area, there are no fleas! Seriously! Part of what keeps us here for sure since I always have a furbaby or 3. How's the pictus doing? They are so funny for sure. Catfish for fish tanks almost always seem to be such great additions with their antics. Hope your day is going well, I'm about to finally eat lunch, and since I didn't get breakfast or dinner guess my tummy is about to growl itself to death hehe.

same tanks, but the gobi tank got a new name, maybe that's what threw you for a loop. It's warming up, supposed to hit mid 80's today and I'm dreading it. I like winter, spring and fall, never was a fan of summer, too hot around here! All is well in both fishy and real worlds, and I'm enjoying having every one at work all day now, it's nice to have time for ME!

Haven't been on for a while, quite busy lately. See you've been gone awhile too, hope things are okay. We had a notice at the school today that there was a case of whooping cough. Hopefully it stays contained to that one child. Otherwise things are going great, fish are all happy. My platies are still having fry. I think about 10 survived from the last batch and just found 20+ new ones last night. They are the cutest little things, but don't know what I'm going to do with all of them. My tank can't support 30+ adult platies and their future babies. Take it easy, leaving a vote.

How are you doing? Is it still snowy there? So, was last month's snowstorm your first this winter? We just got our first snow a week ago. And here I was thinking we might actually go a whole winter without it. It was not to be. We are living in the mountains after all. However, most of it's gone now. One day it's in the 60s and the next it barely gets above freezing. That's spring weather for us!

How is your cold? Gone, I hope. And how are the two new tanks doing? I bet it's fun watching them develop.

The fish here are confused. Before the snowstorm they were considering their options and wanting to come out of hibernation. They have seriously reconsidered! hehe

It's nice to hear from you on DC when you can. But, I know it's hard to keep up with all the activity on there. No worries. Just write when you can! That's what I do. I usually write properly every 2-3 weeks and cram it in all at once. People are patient. Most of the time.

Well, the weekend's coming up so I hope you enjoy it. Here's a vote for you.

Hope you are feeling better. If sick people would just keep their own germs then you wouldn't be feeling so miserable. Sometimes sharing is not a good thing, no matter what we are taught as youngsters. My platties have been popping out their fry like crazy lately. I counted 20 newbies living in the floating plants so they are likely to all survive. They are so cute. Leaving you a vote, have a nice week and tell those little kids it's okay not to share their colds anymore!

purple pasion danio

Thanks for the congratulations on Set up of the week, I haven't logged in all week so it was a suprise to me. I was looking for Zebra danio's to be honest at the LFS, but came across these instead. Not sure I have seen them since though. They are nice little fish, silver in colour but when the light hits them at the right angle they flash purple. Sure the purple would show a lot more under brighter lights but I like watching them to see the flash of purple and as they are always chasing each other about the tank it's cool to watch.

Just putting my two cents in about the Rams. I have both bolivian and german blue rams. My Bolivians are about 2 1/2 inches and my german blues are around an inch. Untill very recently they have spent there whole lives in an angel tank with 4 angels all around 4 inches. I never had any problems with any of them. I had to use tetras as dither fish because the german blues were a little shy but once they caught on to life in a community type tank they were fine. I moved them into a dwarf cichlid tank last week with my apistogrammas and still have had no problems, even with eggs in the caves they are quiet peaceful fish. My advise if you wanted to get the gbr is to ensure they are tank bred, I tried wild caught once and they died the fist time I did a water change, they were alot more colourful but they were fragile. my experience is the tank bred fish are no more difficult to keep then angelfish.

Sorry to hear about your Krib
I don't know that the snail is actually killing them. He's just always eating them when I find one dead. I know Angelfish are known to eat shrimp but I have never noticed them paying them any attention. I haven't had much more luck with the Rams. the male is picking on the female sometimes. My Gourami doesn't pay any attention to the other fish but it is so funny that he's da boss when he wants to be. He don't take no crap off of any other fish! He wanted some of the algae wafer I put in there and he chased all the others away from it. He also knows he's pretty. He will swim up and down the tank looking at his reflection. And the funny thing is that he will run into the other fish in the process like they aren't even there. I love watching him he is full of personality. One of these days I might get one of those Kribs. I hear they are pretty interesting fish too.

I'm so very sorry to hear you've been so ill. My get well thoughts and wishes to you! I'm still dealing with some sinus but now it's all allergy based which is typical so no worries. it's been so incredibly dry here, wow. Sick of sunshine! Where's my rain? Figure it's a bit late to wish for snow, but I never turn down rain! Can't believe I keep having to water my outdoor plants every week. Hopefully your new fish will settle in and life in the tank will balance out. My aunt informed me she finally lost one of her ancient fish so I'm getting closer to inheriting her tank. Now that's something to look forward to but leaves me in a quandry...I don't want her fish to die, but I want the tank...ahh those moral dilemmas!

the ram is great in the tank, he's lively and curious but not mean at all. I'm hoping to get him a few lady friends over time, figure a little harem will keep him busy hehe. Woke up to over 2" of snow! Winter is trying to arrive at long last. Yea, this town shuts down if 3" hits hehe. Having lived in snow country most of my life, I find it funny still hehe. Feeling better, have some lovely sinus issues now but that's normal for me. At least the cold is gone! Glad to hear you get an extra day off to recover. Will kids go out and enjoy the snow today or hibernate with video games hehe. I've gotta game to play today as well, need to catch up on my Zelda, been ignoring it after I had a mishap and jammed my thumb. Now that it feels better, I can do a bit of housework to justify some game time hehe. Get well soon and thanks for the update! Glad to hear from you!
I know that it has been pretty busy for you with all that nice weather we had until last week! I can live with one month of really cold weather! It really has been a really mild winter so far! I feel lucky looking at the news and seeing how bad it has been in Europe Brrr! So far I have been staying out of the emergency room and really hope to keep it that way! My Middle son is out in El Paso right now training for his deployment to afganastan! So I had to set up a Skype account so we can chat with each other! So far the tank is doing really good except for using the marineland power head in circulation mode the suction cups do not hold and I awoke to sand all through the tank everything was coated withh sand how frustrating that was! I removed it from my tank and now just use it to mix my replacement water! Have you added any new spongebob items yet? I see they have lots of new things out! Thanks to FC and there article of the blue red toothed trigger I went out and got one and I really love the way it swims around the tank it looks like a sub! Goto go and get some sleep it was a long day today at work! LAV4U2

Ah, another reason I'm glad I work in the high school instead of with little kids, not as many germs. Of course I work mainly with the teachers, but some of them have terrible sanitary habits. I always wash my hands or change my gloves after handling the utensils off my salad bar. I've watched them eat with their fingers, lick their fingers and then reach back for the spoons to get more food. Or they cough on their hands and then reach for the spoons. Some even cough and sneeze without covering their mouths too. I guess they may be worse than kids now that I think about it. Oh well. So far the only things going around our school are little colds which actually could/might be allergies. The flu has yet to hit but give it time. I lost one of my blue gourmies this weekend, it was 5 years old. I have platties too but they don't seem to bother each other. I currently have two mickey mouse baby platties, they are soooo cute. Hope you're feeling better. Here's a vote.

Hey Rochelle
I was steered away from the German blue Rams. they are very hard to take care of. I got the bolivian rams. Not as pretty but they are hardier fish. They get along with the other fish pretty well. But never place two males in the same tank. One will harass the other one to death. The owner of the LFS told me how to tell the male from the female in the Rams. The males have a sharp pointed end on the back of their top fin. The females top fin is rounded off at the end. My favorite fish is my Mini gourami. Beautiful fish and full of personality. You should get at least 2 or three more Neons. they are happiest and feel safest in a school. I purchased my plants at a local pet store so not all of them were listed with names. But I have three sword plants, three Anubias and some Java Moss. The only ones I have noticed the snail and the Angelfish nibbling on are some kind of runner plants. Don't know what kind. And I think one of my ghost shrimp is carrying babies. You can see them under her tail. Hope this helps.

The crocs there must have had a feast what with all the drowning animals. We have a problem wih rhino poaching in my area. Since the year started already 8 have been killed for their horns. The poachers are getting more clever as they attack at night by helicopter. Even the army has failed to make a real impact on these buggers. I wish people from the east would learn that rhino horn is nothing but keratin. they could use their own hair or nails as a substitute, they should leave the rhinos alone. Not satisfied with driving their own Asian species to extinction, they now kill African wildlife. Next time I think I shall tell you about the positive side of South Africa. I hate to leave you with a bad impression but as you can understand, survival out here is something of a challenge. Enough for today. take care and be well. Cheers! Stokes

Hi Rochelle, sincerely hope you are well. Its been a long time since I last wrote you and a lot has happened since then. My daughter was signed up at a government school but we decided to remove her from there and put her in a private school. I also had an accident about three weeks back. I shall be getting my car back tomorrow. I'm also on leave from work which has been nice so far, I am at home trying to catch up with life at home and especially my aquaria. Kansas City you say, is it anything like Iowa? I have relatives that have settled there some years ago. My cousin is a doctor in Iowa City. I watch a lot of National Geographic channel and the one thing you have there are bears. They can surely be dangerous if one is not careful. Another impressive animal that hails from your parts is the bison. Yellow Stone and Yosemite look mighty impressive. I would love to see them someday. most of our parks do not allow feeding etc, but its nice to sometimes feed monkeys, baboons and ostriches without someone hassling you about it. In Cpe Town for example, feeding of baboons are prohibited, they have become such a menace plaguing the tourists. Antelope are very skittish. in the veld one needs to come up wind and creep up on them from behind real slowly. They spot you and they're off. HIV is killing people and leaving the children to the grandparents who then look after them with the little state pension they get each month. I am quite shocked to hear about the crime and violence there in your city. At least people do not burn others for witchcraft in your parts. witch hunts are still the rage here, but then you actually have people who practice that stuff. They sometimes kill people and especially albinos and kids for human parts for use in muti, which is the spell. These kind of murders are called muti murders. Our schools are much the same, and that is why my daughter will attend a private institution. I think the problem is widespread. for one thing corporal punishment at schools is banned and back when we were in school, we got wacked for all sorts of misdemeanours. Kids have little or no respect for authority. Also no youngsters are being forcefully enlisted in the army like before. That instilled discipline in school leavers. Last year we had two armed robbers hold us up. Lucky for us they only wanted cash anmd valuables and were not bothered about hurting anyone. Your 10G tnk sounds interesting, would like to see it sometime soon. Otherwise the weather has been rainy, but hot and sunny too. The rain usually arrives in the afternoon and usually is a thunderstorm. It clears up and the sun comes out again. Its rather muggy and humid too. Flashflooding has already caused problems in Mozambique and northern - north east South Africa. Damages were pretty intense in Kruger Park, where several American and Canadian tourists were flown out of there by copter. Admissions were not allowed all of last week. The crocs there must have had a feast what

I can't imagine working in the elementary cafeteria, it's crazy enough at the high school level. I did make it out to the fish store that I had found online. It was neat, one half of the store was saltwater and the other half freshwater. I would have been better if they had more of a variety of fish. The tanks were clean, heavily planted (and beautiful) and the fish were nice and healthy. They had quite a few fish that I had never seen before and they had prices to match too. I did buy five golden white clouds, hadn't seem those before and I could afford them! I don't know if I'd go back again but it was worth at least one trip. I'll just have to keep looking for another store. Maybe find one that sells the striped kuhli's. Have a good day and leaving you a vote.

yup, after yesterday fever sessions, I feel much better today. and been nursing my neck. and playing Zelda in between real life. My family laughs at me when I'm playing, though I'm always laughing at it too hehe. Weather is more like cool spring than winter, I really hope we get more winter in Feb. I'd like it to rain until about June myself! Crazy about the flu bug closing the schools! Wow! Congrats on the new fish! Wow, the good kind of WOW! yea, I'm a big fan of color, my sister and I do decorating days a few times a year, shake things up, try new ideas. Paint is the easiest way to change things, and I've always got something going on. Once I really like something, it's there for a long time but since we've only been here 2 years, and we're still changing things inside and out as money allows, it's like a playground still hehe. How are you doing? I see that you got Cali and Gracie all fixed up on the DC. And yes, it's not easy keeping up on there but then again, who says you have to? I eventually do a cramming session and catch up with all my blogs but I have to admit, I'm often behind on there. Making one page for both is a great idea.

Is it still unusually warm there? It's been pretty cold here but it finally warmed up enough to give us lots of much needed rain. I'm sure glad it came in the rain form and not snow. Otherwise, with the amount of precipitation we've received we'd be completely snowed in.

The fish are even moving a little bit with this warmer (high of 40) weather.

A little bit belated I kind of took out my internet it turns out it doesn't like saltwater! The cable modem they exchanged but the router was mine and it was not coming back so I had to replace it! I had my smart phone but it was annoying with such a small screen and woud always send me in the areas I didn't want to go! I went to the emergency room last night I kept having these sudden headaches but it seems like after each one my Left side woukd get more feeling back so I didn't pay too much attention to but then my right hand had gone tingly so I went to the emergency room! I guess all is fine but I guess the corpal tunnel is even worse! Still I don't want the surgery afriad they will make things worse! I like being able to work and if my right hand goes out that is it for my working! but all in all I'm alright should no more when I see the my doctors at least I sure hope so! I have been enjoying all the good weather it has been so nice and warm lately but things did cool off! It is still going to be in the 40's so I can't complian! I also work for a school district and started back today. I'm part-time in the cafeteria and my job is keeping the teachers/staff from going hungry. I'd rather deal with the teachers than the kids (high schoolers). It was nice to have about two weeks off but it sure is nice to be back in the routine again. Sorry to hear about the clown loaches, did you have them long? I see my black kuhli loaches more than my striped kuhli's, which is a shame since I love the striped ones. I went to a LFS the other day to get some more of them and found out they went out of business. I was just there a couple weeks ago and there wasn't a sign saying it. They were having a 50% off entire store event (which should have clued me in) but I figured it was an end of year sale. I think I may have found a new LFS that looks awesome on their website, but it's about an hour away or so. I'm looking forward to going, it looks really big and the tanks look nice and clean too.
