No Apologies Required Ray!
One thing I've learned in this life is that there are times we need to let off steam. Since I am in PTSD Counseling I do the same thing with in my sessions. It helps too. At the risk of sounding like a cliche...are there or is it possible to get in a support group? I'm lucky that way I suppose and, have some old buddies I was in Vietnam with who let me ramble and they listen without judgement. I know our situations are different but...the same somehow? Fear and,Anxiety rule. That's where our hobby comes in. Fishkeeping keeps me sane for sure. Knowing that even though these animals are small, they depend on us for their care and feeding. In turn they give us peace, and calm with their beautiful displays. As for children ( I never had any ) you're fortunate that you'll see them grow up for a time. Sometimes, the here and now is more important than the future you can't control? You have your family that loves you no matter what. Take comfort in that! I can't imagine what you're feeling, I really cant but, I can try to empathize. All we know is, our human spirit refuses to give up and we fight because it's all we know. So my friend, keep fighting and take care! I'll be here.

Howdy Ray
So sorry for the confusion. Yeah, Life does get in the way. I will do a google search and see what I can learn of this disease. When something like this happens to us, we become scholars on that particular subject it seems. I know when I had my Bladder infection back in July ( I almost died ) no one knew where it came from or what triggered it? Even now, my V A Doctors don't know why I got sick. Now I know how women who are about to give birth feel. In a small way I'm told by mothers I know. I can sure relate. You DON'T want to know what that kind of pain is like! Luckily, I was in the presence of a Nurse and two Fire Fighters that took quick action that saved my life. My friend Jim saw that I was shivering, he took my temperature ( 104 degrees )
and they called the Hospital ( an hour away ) put me in the car and literally flew me there. Doc said had they been half an hour later I'd have died because my Bladder would have burst and poisoned me internally. I still haven't come up with a way to thank them except by saying Thank You Guys! The scary part of all this is not knowing if it'll happen again? Now, is there ANY treatment for your SCA7? After I do some research ( As I'm SURE You have already)? I'll better understand your illness. Well, I also hope you get your algae problem solved too? When I clean my filter, I put in these Phosphate packets I get at my LFS to combat the algae. It must work because the algae growth has slowed. I can't seem to completely get rid of it though??? I guess all the LFS' have staff to keep the tanks clean LOL! So that's it....I need Staff! Anyway, Hang In there buddy.

Howdy Ray...Yes...Long Time I No Write!
I Know I Know...Sorry,
I'm sorry too that you have to scrap your breeding set up. More importantly I'm sorry to hear about your son. I have Heart Disease in my immediate family. My father had a Massive Coronary and died at 46. My mother died at 41 from Kidney failure. I have had two Stents put in my heart back in January. Luckily, I try to take care of myself. I eat right, I cut out RED meat almost completely. Lots of fruit and green vegetables now. NO Butter, Ice Cream, minimal Salt etc.. The thing is, I was already doing most of this anyway. Enough of that. As you can see I've added several new fish. The Dwarf Gouramis are doing fine, so are the Cory Cats. I've added recent pics ( can't wait to see yours ) too! Yes, my Kitty is missing. I just hope nothing got her? I'd rather someone Cat Napped her than a Coyote or Mountain Lion getting her which happens. Everything else is doing well, as am I. I'm in Albuquerque as I write this and having a great time so far. Probably going The Man's Hat Store to buy myself a new Cowboy hat and some Hat Bands for sure and possibly more? It should be fun?
Take care Ray, I wish your family well.

thanks
your tank looks amazing, i broke every rule in the book with all my fish, they lay with my hand in the tank beside them. looks like u have everything they look ready to pair off. i put pvc pipes in my tank for the angels i seem to do better and its less trouble to pull the pipes with eggs and put them in a 10 gal. to hatch if u r rasin discus that will not work i would remove all other fish after they spawn the pipes r ugly in the tank but it keeps a lot of trouble down for me. i am in the process of opening a fish store i give away fish by the hundreds. i cant wait to have my discus back, oh and if u can find them earthworms are my trick with the discus mine grew soo fast and eat from my hand they live them. if u dont mind me asking where did u find ur discus here in bama most dont even know what they are, urs look great

Hi,
Thank you for the vote :) Yes, Discus are not your standard fish to start with LOL. The hobbyist that set me up with them lived close by and tutored me.

I love the big tanks and wish I could get bigger. I am afraid my 50 is the largest I will go at least for the moment ;) I agree that with Discus you would not want an extremely heavy planted tank. Gotta have that swimming room!

When my current fish in the 50 age out I have been thinking of making it a Discus tank with no more then 5 :) I know many of the small fish I have in Chocolate Delight would be fine with Discus but the current stars are my Gourami and the Ram pair. The Ram pair will be going into my Angelfish setup when I convert that 29 Gal to a 45 Gal that I already purchased. Oh, I would love Discus again and I think they would love my naturally soft well water. Out of the tap it is 6.8 to 6.6 PH depending on season with a low KH of 2-3 and TDS conductivity meter reads 128 Us. Of course I would thin out my plants some....

Thank you for stopping by and telling me about your history and setup :)

HI,
Wow, I can't believe I have not seen your setup until now? Your Discus setup is incredible! Are your Discus several strains? Or one Strain? I had 5 Discus back in the early 80's (my first fish ever) A hobbyist neighbor set me up and assisted me while I learned :)

Leaving a vote! I am bidding for SOTW this week so stop by my Chocolate Delight and vote if you like it :)

Thanks For The Update Ray!
Man....I'm meeting so many great people here who are always nice, helpful, and knowledgable! I love it. So sorry you were down with a flu bug,Tell me, do you take Flu shots? I stopped years ago and haven't had it since! The V A is always insisting that I do, I always say NO. I discovered I would get the very thing I was trying to prevent a week or so after the shots, so I stopped. I'll get a cold now and then but that's it??
Anyway I hope you can get back to the tank project soon. I can't wait to see pics of that! All the other tanks up and running. Now you can get the Grandkids into fishkeeping as well? Your Discus are stunning. I'm envious and glad that I can come to this site and see Creativity at work. Take care Ray, feel better soon. Oh,

I'd imagine you're ankle deep in sawdust by now? I hope my engineering specs didn't throw you off too much LOL! I DID say, I wasn't good at math...Oh thanks for the tip o0n the other webstes too. I'll check it out a bit later. I guess too the big 300 gl. tank is in? You'll have to post pics after the room is set up. I'm curious as to what kind of time you'll have to devote to caring for what, 13 tanks? It's a safe bet you've done all your traveling because, I wouldn't take a vacation and leave my tanks in the care of some else ( unless they were expert fish keepers )? Wow, you were going into the service just after I got out in 71. I went back to my Factory job in Indiana, then left for Chicago and lived there five years before moving to San Diego for 24 years then up here for the last 4. All I have is 4 more years til I retire then I can spend my time at home too. Lots to do as you well know. Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Happy Sawing!

Growl...Continued...Ugh!
As I was saying LOL....When we built our ( hootches )bunkers, we used 12x12's then piled dirt about 3 ft. thick and then built another roof over that to withstand a Mortar blast, I'm sure 6x6's would more than handle that load. Think about it and get back to me. I guess I need to learn how to really type? My index finger is paying the price...But....it works! I'm leaving a vote. Howdy And Good Morning Ray!
First...Yes, I'm a Vietnam era Vet. I spent the end of 69 and all of 70 in the 20th Engineers, digging ditches LOL!. Seriously though many Vets are worse off than me. I think of them all the time because I see many of them daily. Lake county has a huge population of Vets, mostly from the Army & Marines. It's great when we can help each other out too! I welcome them all home! Now, even though I was in the Engineers, I'm quite sure our math formula's wouldn't agree ( Not my forte' )? I would
think though that using 6x6's would solve the support problem? Here's a theory you may be too young to have heard, LOL? I bought a waterbed back in the day and the salesman told me that there's no more weight per square foot than a refridgerator puts on a floor. It seems very plausible because everywhere I moved that bed, it never broke a floor. The best sleep I ever got too! I would think the bottom supports would carry the top load especially if the floor joists are 2x8's ? Remember, the joists are tied togetherand braced to spread the load of whatever reasonable weight is placed on that floor. Give your local big box a call just to check my theory, I think it's pretty sound. W

Howdy Ray...Left a Vote!
Good morning Ray,
Thanks for indulging my curiosity, One of these days I'll get that 75? I know that it's better to have tanks in dimly lit or windowless rooms to show them off. My house is cabin style with a guest room and loft upstairs. The main floor is a well lit great room with lots of big glass doors and windows ( sliders ), so there's much ambient light comes in. I love that light you have too. My tank has a glass divider across the top to prevent the light fixture from falling in. I'd rather hang it like yours or get one that fixes to the back of the tank? My tank is about 15 years old now. If I get a bigger one, I'll definitely get my own R. O. system instead of lugging water in jugs. Anyway, If I have questions , I know you can answer them LOL! Tell me, Is your son here on the site? I'm sure he's as good as you at fish keeping! Anyway, we were snowed in yesterday and my called to say "STAY HOME", Woo-Hoo!
