Hey! She's back!
So glad it wasn't permanent;). Every time I've thought of throwing in the towel I begin to think how much fun it would be to start over LOL. My 50 has been established since 2009 but lately I've been eyeing it and wanting to re-scape.

Recently received 4 Kuhli Loaches (ordered 5 but one died during acclimation) and 12 assassin snails that my mother and I went in on. Unfortunately they almost didn't have anyone home to be delivered to as my step dad died suddenly the day they shipped. It has been very sad for my mother and the entire family/friends to say the least. We are headed to my mothers this weekend again just to be there and to do this and that for the coming winter. Things my step dad would have done. He was well loved and will be missed.

So what is the status of your tank and fish now? Still battling pond snails?

What the ...,!!
Haha, out of nowhere do you come.! I think you owe me a stink-eye pic, haha. So did you finally setup a new tank and have peace with the snails? I now know how you feel, my 20 gallon is now fully planted, and as you know, it has plenty of unwanted snails. Anyway, welcome back and keep in touch.

Hi Sarah,
I have blog peaked and see you are throwing in the towel on fish and live plants. Sorry to hear that but I took a long breather myself from 1991 to 2007 so hope it's not permanent.

Hi Sarah!
I've taken the opportunity to read some of the comments on the blog and (as I take it) you've given up on keeping fish and gone with growing plants. Is that correct? Allow me to add my two cents (if I may). There's nothing wrong with having just a planted tank, and I tend to like the photos you have of your planted tank! There may be a fish (or a few of them) in each of the featured aquariums but, check out the tanks, the emphasis is on the planted tank:
http://www.latimes.com/la-hm-aquascaping-pictures,- 0,3757517.photogallery, http://www.plantedtank.net/, http://naturalaquariums.com/, http://www.greenleafaquariums. com/planted-aquarium-gallery.html
These are just a few of the many sites for planted tanks. I'm just starting to dabble in the world of planted tanks myself. I find it quit a challange myself. I'm very familiar with gardening and plants, but terrestrial, not squatic. It's definitely another part of fish keeping (or not), but just as rewarding when things grow right! I, too, have been keeping fish for the better part of 40 years, with MANY lost fish along the way!
Which ever you choose to do, enjoy it to the fullest, and good luck! We could all use some of that!
Hers's a vote for aquatic PLANTS!!!

Hey
First off, don't worry about your spelling, there's no spell check here, ha. And about the bleach, I hate bleach. I don't use anything with bleach, especially in or on fish tanks. I was reasearching some old timer tanks from back in the day and they would use bleach to clean the water and try to rid the water of any bugs. They would then airate the water for weeks to "bleed out" the chemicals. So if you have a bubble stone pushing a lot of air out, it might be diluting the bleach. I don't like the bleach treatment, but you might have to drop in a few drops every couple of days to keep it cycling. What I would do is dry the tank out completely, drain the tank dry and rinse the fake plants. Then, let the tank sit and dry for a week or so. Keep me posted!

gonna try again?
Not sure why you had such a hard time with your set up, hopefully next time it will work out properly for you. Have had a lot of failed tanks in my life, been doing this for about 40yrs and no 2 tanks are ever the same, and well, sometimes it's a lot of trial and error. then sometimes it all works well, 2 of my tanks have been running without a hitch for over 3 yrs now, even surviving a major move to which I'm still grateful. Some of my fish are as precious to me as my furbabies! Thanks for stopping by, sorry it took so long to catch up, been kinda busy lately but it's all been good at least!

Sorry To Hear That Sarah!
Yes, fishkeeping is a learning experience always. I just learned that I'd been starving my Cories...that's why they always died. So, you see Sarah. I had stuff to learn as well. By the way, "NEVER" use household cleansers to clean ANYTHING related to your fish EVER!!!
When you start keepining fish again, Get something from your LFS for cleaning equipment. I can't remember what I used but, I've used Salt, Vinegar, and Lemon Juice as cleaners. First...they're Natural and they don't have bleach or soap ( which you never want )! Finally, always rinse everything well in cold water. I'm glad you'll blog once in awhile because you can stayed in touch and ask questions. I hope your memorial day was good? Take care Sarah.

Country!
I love country music. Just joking-hate it! I listen to good rock and good rap, mostly rock. I just bought an Incubus album titled S.C.I.E.N.C.E. It's a must buy if you like Incubus. I also like Tool, APC, and every once in a while some Pantera. I just burned a Pantera album, Cowboys from Hell, but my amp just blew in my car, so I'm not getting my bass boost that I love so much! The lead singer of Tool, James Maynard Keenan, has another band that is not as popular and I like them too. It's called Puscifer and they have a web site www.puscifer.com that plays some of their music for free. Check it out if you have a chance, the first song is a cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man" called Rocket Mantastic, it's great. Also, check out their song "Polar Bear", it's one of my favorites so far. I will warn you that Puscifer is different, but I like it. Who do you listen to?

Howdy Sarah.
Sorry I haven't been around. I'm off today so decided to catch up on blogs to see how everyone's doing? All's well here, my shoulder is finally on the mend and just a bit of pain now. I finally figured out my Cory problem and, I feel so bad because I was starving the little critters to death. Anyway, everything else is fine. Fish are happy too. Take care Sarah.

How goes the plants? Any new fish yet or just hanging out with snails and plants hehe. Snails, they can be so bothersome! It's a lovely morning here and we are to get t-storms today and tomorrow. Would be nice if 'they' actually got our weather right. We're in a weird area anyway, sorta like a Bermuda Triangle only dry with lots of sagebrush haha. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

busy life
I can soooo relate! Been super busy myself and here's more proof, a short but sweet blog. Thanks for the update. I'm still not doing anymore live plants. Actually, not doing anything else but maintenance to the tanks as I've got too much going on and no money for tank now but all fish are happy enough as they are. Spring has arrived and I'm hoping for more rain but at least it's not snowing!

Well...I'm Not Sure About Why Cories Dig?
Sarah , I know cories are scavengers and, they root through the gravel to find leftover bits of fish food etc. Who knows, since you've discovered snails again ...yours might be developing a taste for the little buggers? Another thing too is you might make the gravel deeper to anchor the plant more securely? My plants are anchored to wood under the gravel. I too need to change my water, It's been 2.5 weeks for me. I change more than half. the rocks have grown lots of algae too! Bad Fishkeeper ....LOL! And yes, the new pics are all of the Garden. That's one of two cats we have. Her name is "BACK UP" ....Isn't she gorgeous? The Yellow and White flowers are Daffodils plus, Red Clover, Spanish Lavender, Blue Lupines, and others. I'll post more pics of our Irises later! The flower on the back deck is a pink Camelia. Have a great day Sarah.

pleco problem
i had the same thing happen when i got an otto the aquarium was really bad and the otto ended up dead because he wouldnt eat the algae i was told that he just didnt like the type that was there i went and got a pleco and he fix it up quick i would try a different type of algae eater and see if that works and if you would rather go a different route then there is a a product by API called alga-fix its a chemical way to treat algae not real sure on the spelling but seem interesting as an option i have never used the stuff but you could look it up and research it hope your able to come up with a fix left vote have a great day
