Hi Katelyn,
I don't know without googling if the black neons and regular neons are even the same species but sure I bet they would school with him. I have a mix of regular and gold Pristella tetra and they school together and joist with each other fine. I wasnt at all sure of getting normal Pristella after having the gold for so long but they are beautiful with their subtle color.
Sorry about your dwarf frog. They do like temperate in the lower to mid 70's so maybe it was the change in water parameters or just the stress of the filter... I recently lost all my chocolate gourami that I had over a year and sometimes we just never know.
Speaking of wood I am eyeing manzanita branches for my 45 gal angelfish project. But I'm not ready for the price just yest :)

You're doing the right thing LOL! Use That Brain, Use That Brain...! Stay in School, learn all you can. Knowledge is Power and all that. Okay, I know you get it LOL! Glad to hear you're doing well. It's been hectic for me as well. busy month but, it's slowing back to the usual day to day stuff. My fish are well and, the tank looks great. I got a new battery operated Siphon and "I LOVE IT" . Wow... does it work great. I can use it to pick up leftover fish food etc. I also agree with Kathy...I'm sure you could get a few more Neons because they like to school. Even in a 10 gallon, your fish load is small. The wood look great too. I have some but, not in my current set up! If I ever get a larger tank that one will be ste up with wood in it. I like your setup, especially that beautiful piece of moponi (Sp?) wood. is your fish list that you have posted the current one? Is the single tetra an old one? I bet you could fit 4 more and get away with it? How does the red tailed shark and dwarf frog get along?
I am especially fond of gourami and since I lost my chocolates have been thinking of Honey Gourami or... One of the small ones - to go in my 50.

Howdy Katelyn, Believe me ...I know about a tight budget too! I think we ALL do? Anyway, I hope you had a great Easter Sunday? I enjoyed going twostepping, it was great. It seems you've done your homework and know just what to do. Now, That single Neon is probably VERY lonely?
I've heard they need others to thrive but if you've had them a long time, he's probably old? Back to breeding, I haven't had time to read up on Tetras breeding methods. Sorry ! We'll both have to research it. Left a Vote. Take care.

Use Caution with the Food!
Howdy Katelyn,
Be careful that you don't feed them too many Bloodworms ( if they're live ), because that can crash your P H and kill your fish. Check your P H often. I had a tank of Discus and crashed my P H that way. I also don't want toi scare you but, it's possible? On to other things. Now, you say the Serapae's are coloring up good?
I think I'd ask someone here who may have bred them for answers? Since the Serapae are a Tetra, they probably breed the same way? If you're lucky enough to pick out a pair, That might be displaying breeding behavior, I'd get that breeding box and hang it inside the tank with the two in it then, see what happens? You'd also be wise to check out what to do with the parents after they lay eggs, plus...you'll need a place to keep the fry if you get any? I hope so? They can only live in that box for so long????? Say, If any Tetra Breeder reader reads this blog...Please Advise! I'm sure some knows! Leaving a Vote Katelyn.

No Breeding Experience...!
Howdy Katelyn,
Sorry ..I've never really intnded to breed any fish I've ever kept. It's happened accidentally many times though. I've heard though that if you can figure out the sex of your Serapae, put the pair into one of those plastic boxes that hang inside the tank and they'll do the rest? If there's a blogger who reads this, please advise because I certainly don't know? A coworker of mine told me about breeding Neons and, this is what she did? She says it worked better than she'd hoped and she sold Neons to pet stores here.Anyway Katelyn, have a great weekend, leaving a Vote!

Hello
I have had good luck with these silver hatchets. I started with 8 and now have 4 but these 4 I have had for a few years. The current in the tank is not hard and I only have tetras in the tank. And most important no openings in the hood. We tried hatchets in a larger tank with bigger fish and had no luck. I would say a peaceful tank would be best.
