Hi Cale
Well, here's how my day went. I got home this morning at 7:30 am after spending another sleepless uncomfortable night at the hospital on call. I noticed that Jack hadn't left for work yet and thought that was strange. I was sooooo looking forward to taking a shower and maybe a bit of a nap because I was exhausted. My back was killing me from that horrible bed at the hospital too. Well, he met me at the door and said bad, bad, bad news. I say what? The fish tank had sprung a leak somewhere untrackable and had dumped all over the floor and even ran down into the basement. So we ended up running all over the place trying to find a replacement tank that would fit into the same spot. We finally ended up getting a 55g that overhangs into the bay window a bit but would work. I had to buy a new stand too because the old was too small and had nearly disintigrated from the leak. Then when we got home I had to dismantle everything in the tank into totes including all the sand with minimal loss of life. I'm glad there are only three fish right now. Then we had to move the old tank out and get the new one in place and reverse the whole process. It took all my strength not to just sit down and cry all afternoon. I thought my back hurt earlier well that was n othing compared to now!!! There is still alot of silt that needs to clear out but I got it all back together. All the rock needs to be re arranged because I pretty much just lobbed it in to cut down on die off. I have to wait till the silt dissapates before I can fine tune it because I pretty much can't see anything. Thursday I can spend the day fixing it. I hope I don't lose any corals from all the trauma. What a day!!! So how was yours?

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I hope you all are having a marvelous Thanksgiving! I'm here at the hospital on call but it hasen't turned out as lonely as I thought it would. One of my co-workers had picked up a shift in the emergency room so we met for lunch. The hospital cafeteria was serving up a free turkey dinner for employees which turned out to be not bad for hospital food. Then since she was still on at dinner time I met up with her again. This time we had turkey dinner that the doctor in charge of the ER had cooked himself and brought in for the staff. He had thought of everything down to the gravy and it was all delicious! Very unusual for a doctor to be so thoughtful. We were still pretty full from lunch but we stuffed more in anyway. So all in all, not a bad day. Now I just have to get through a 10 hour shift tommorrow after having been here all night. Then I can relax, ahhhh, can't wait.

I haven't forgotten you! I've been having internet connection problems and it's been quite frustrating. In order to write a blog I usually have to reload a few times and it takes forever. I usually end up giving up after one or two. I don't know if it's the internet or the computer. I've done virus scans and it all comes up clean. All the registry errors were cleaned up too. Maybe it's all the bad press Windows Vista has been getting and it's retaliating!!! I'll get back to you soon.

I'm sorry that you lost a couple of your fish. At least your plants are thriving. Things here are doing well. It's started to get cold again and our fish are slowing sinking to the bottom. I'm sure glad I'm not a fish. Brrr! Here's a vote for you.

Miss you! How's the tank re-do going? After a very very busy week at work I was so ready to go home and relax. But, no, I have to stay in this stupid hospital on call AGAIN!!!! I don't feel like I have any life anymore. It's probably reflected in my blogs too because I never have anything new and wonderful to tell, lol. Jack will be medically cleared to return to work on the 19th. That's good because he's bored to tears at this point. I think it's funny because he always says he can't wait for retirement. Seems to me that it'll be just like the past couple of months been which is making him crazy. Can't wait to get home and enjoy the rest of the long weekend. I think we're going to a WW2 re-enactment on Sunday so maybe I'll have something new to share. The fish are fine. The damsel is still a jerk. I ordered a couple of new corals and some snails in an online sale. I hope they do well. Take care and have a great night. See you on FB.

Howzit chiner? That’s how we say “ how are you, friend?” We’re chiners right? Sorry about the long absence. Hope you’re well dude. So what did you decide on? You were not sure of what you were going to get the last time I heard from you. I have a suggestion if you like. Seeing that it is a small tank I was wondering if you would consider small Tanganyikan cichlids like multis or other shell dwellers. They’re pretty cool fish, although they do peck on plants, though fast growing plants won’t really be a problem. The crayfish are also an option. Seeing that it is legal in your country, you may be wise to do so. We South African aquarists are banned from keeping any freshwater crustaceans like shrimp or crayfish. We have native species and the fear is that we will let exotic species into local rivers and cause an ecological catastrophe. There are several fish that are banned as well, like snakeheads, certain killie fish are among those that are banned species. Its spring and its already so hot. The sun in Africa is quite intense all through the year, but summer it is sometimes unbearably hot and humid here where I live. Its during summer that the tropical cyclones and great storms arrive, well no sign of them yet, its still the dry season. Dry season during winter here, the fields go dry and just about everything looks dessicated until the first rains arrive at the end of September. But from now until they do it will be hot and dry. Well chiner, do take care and be well! Cheers! Stokes

Hard to believe summer is over. I feel like it's just started. The beginning of school again seems way too soon. Someone also said they saw the geese beginning to migrate. We'll probably get a foot of snow the day after tommorrow, lol. Hope this new car does well in snow. I'm really bad at taking pictures of my tank. It doesen't look as nice as it did before so why change for the worse! Hope you had a nice labor day weekend. Keep up the great farming.

Got a car today. Went looking at corollas and ended up getting a camry. They gave me a pretty good deal on it. They gave me $1600 off the price too which was a much better deal than the last place offered me. I'll probably pick it up on Sat. It's a metallic blue color which I liked. I have to say that none of the new car styles are very exciting. It's a very common car so it's hard to get real excited. Plus I get nervous with unfamiliar cars. It'll take a long time for me to get oriented to it. Time to call it quits for tonight.

Nice farming! You're moving up the ranks really quickly. I just had to spend 24 hours in the hospital on call because I live further than the 30 min. response time. The call room felt like a jail cell and the bed has left me so kinked up I can barely move. I couldn't sleep and watched the clock creep by and of course since I was already there, there were no emergencies so I didn't make any money. A lousy $2.50 to carry the beeper. I tell ya, it was the longest 24 hours I've ever spent. Usually the people that live closer and can stay home take the call but they didn't this time. I'm so tired right now. It's only 5:30 but I feel like I could go to bed for the night.

How are the snails doing? I remember having snails before and they grow like weeds. Did you get any mollies and shrimp? I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop here.

Melian is also doing great and now weighs almost 30lbs. She is growing so fast and learning fast too. Tomorrow I hope to ride again and I'll bring her along. And we'll go to the post office too. She loves it there because they give her treats.

A couple of nights ago I was working at the computer and she noticed that I had a biscuit in my pocket. I've been trying to teach her to wipe her eye with her paw and every night before we go to bed I tell her to do it and then I take her paw and wipe her eye. We've been doing this for about 2 weeks now and didn't seem to be getting anywhere. Anyway, I told her to do it and just continued working at the computer. I didn't think she'd do it but a minute later she suddenly did it and gave me her most mischievous look. So then I had to find the biscuit fast in my pocketful of junk and gave it to her. Later that night I told her to do it and she did it right away. Then last night she did it again but when I told her to do it the second time she just stared at me. We stared at each other for about 7 minutes and then I gave in and pulled her paw over her face for her and gave her the biscuit. I guess I'll see whether she'll do it again tonight. Once she knows it well I'll have to get it on video.

I hope you had a great weekend and here's a vote for you. ttyl

Hey buddy! Glad to hear you had a lovely vacation! Better luck next time with the angling. And sorry to hear about your losses. It’s a real drag losing fish like that. With ich you should slowly raise the temperature to around 28C and add some salt, a tsp. to every 10l of water. Growing plants is very rewarding pursuit in the aquarium hobby and its nice that you want to try it. I personally love it. I could recommend some fast growers that will have your tank looking like a jungle in just over a month. Cabomba, Valisneria, hygrophilia are all easy to keep and do not require special water treatments and fertilizers or Carbon dioxide injection. Some hobbyist choose to go with ‘difficult’ plants which require special lights and so on. You could opt for that later, but for now, to get a feel for how it goes, you will do well to go with the ‘easier’ lot. So what are you planning to stock your tank with fishwise? I’m still looking out for brackish water species. But in the third world, availability can be a problem as they are not too common around these parts. Will have to wait. Winter is coming to an end, the trees are blossoming and the vegetation is sprouting new leaves. Spring will officially begin at the start of September. My kid is sick, she’s got flu and its slowly betting better. Two year olds can be very difficult when they’re sick. She’s still hooked on Barney, which I’m so thankful for. I hate Barney, but we are indebted to him for calming my daughter and keeping her happy. I had lost one of my snakes about 8 weeks ago and I finally caught her after weeks of searching. She is a grey rat snake, an American snake, about 3years old and 6 ft long. She got out when I left a gap in the slider not realizing it. I’ve lost her a few times already. I also have a Taiwanese rat snake who is also an escape artist, but she is not as wily as my other. And of course, Tweety my parakeet is well. Well bud, it was nice to hear from you too! Take care and good luck with the fish shopping! Cheers! Stokes

Hi Fishes
How far away is your fish store? If it's not that far you could swap fish for supplies and that would ease some of the financial burden. That's what you could do with the fry if you really do want live bearers. Today was very hot and muggy. I planned to do a water change but it was just too sticky. I have to go rescue the anemone's supper from the hermit crabs. They're trying to steal it from out of his mouth. Can't get a moment's peace with those little devils! Catch you later.

The tank is beautiful! I was reading a couple of new fish mags today, not sure which one either Tropical Fish Hobbyist or the Freshwater & Marine Aquarium Mag. Anyway, they had a beautiful planted tank in there, the way it was set up it looked like it was literaly a mini park with a walk way through it. It was really neat! Anyway... blogging here, but voting both!
