and say Hi and hopefully catch up. I hope all is going well with you. I assume your pond has had snow this year, did you get pics. of it? We got cold but the snow did not get this far. Our shallow pond, 50 gal, did manage to get about a couple of inches of ice on/in it. My son had to break it up on the concrete. You know how it goes, something new has to be played with. I don't blame him, if it wasn't so cold I probably would have egged him on. Take care and stay warm. Ttyl

Hi pond friend
Good to hear that you are well. It seems like everyone is so busy with the holidays. We finally got our outside lights done and Christmas tree almost finished being decorated. It is taking more time this year to get this stuff done. I hope your holiday has been enjoyable so far. Take care. TTYL

I've been there...
we have had some very aggressive fish that are species peaceful. My favorite and my son's most despised was a female guppy. Yes, guppy. She was tough as nails, she killed his male betta (why he hated her), other guppies, fought with my male betta (he hated her too) and finally lived with the big fancy goldfish. I thought she was just a tough cookie who held her own. Every fish,(in my opinion) has its own unique personality. We still have to separate them and watch to see that they get along. It is a great thing to have smaller tanks available for those fish that just can't get along with others. I hope it all goes well with you. Hang in there and you will get through this too. :) Leaving votes... of course. ttyl

Hi, leaving votes and catching up...
I am so sorry to hear about losing your koi, that sucks. Fish are so tricky, they do great one minute and demand so much care the next, then die. We have been doing so much better since we switched to our well water for the inside tanks. The ponds have received so much fresh rain water, that the algae is hard to manage right now. The benefit is it gives them protection from the sun and some cover, but we can't see them unless we feed them. Anyway, we went wireless and have internet problems mostly resolved. We still have so much to do and are so tired thinking about it. Bit by bit, minute by minute we get through it. I do sympathize with you. We lost a butterfly koi and some fancy goldfish in the pond since we last spoke. It is discouraging, but hang in there. The motivation, means, and cutie-pie fry will inspire you again as long as you don't give up. Take care. :)

He is so cute for a mighty dragon...
I'm glad you posted his pic., it is hard to find his profile on reptile channel. I was hoping to see it before I came here, but no such luck. He is so cool. I hope all is well with you and your family, fish and ponds. We are going to have to change our ISP, it might be awhile before I get back on here steady. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. I'm leaving votes for both sites.

It is hot here too.
We have heat advisories for the last week. What sucks about it is, this is the week we took for vacation. We are celebrating our 25th Anniversary as well. It is our time to rest and relax, but it seems when go someplace interesting to hang out, it is either hot & humid, or bad thunderstorms that keep us inside. I hope you get some relief, or are comfortable where you are. Do you keep your water dragon in an aquarium inside? I hope you have a wonderful Thursday. I'm leaving votes for you. Take care and stay cool.

I wish my ponds looked like that too. We are planning a larger pond that will take a big portion of the back yard, but it is at least a couple years down the road. That water dragon was cool, it was the first I heard about them. Congratulations on your new Betta. I hope he does very well for you. I'm leaving votes 4 you. TTYL

That is fortunate that you have not had any storms recently... Knock on wood, fingers crossed for good luck, etc. We have had some good afternoon storms that have given the ponds rainwater which made the pea soup algae take over. We cleaned the ponds and did some yard work. I guess that is the downfall of nice weather... hot work outside. The fish are happy and we can actually see them now. I did see the you tube video and did like it. Too much... it is inspiring me to want to expand our ponds. lol. As if I need more work to do. Anyway, I hope your week is going great so far. Take care. ttyl

We live in s.w. Fl so hurricane season affects us also. We have been busy trying to get things ready around here. I hope you don't get any bad storms either. Are you by the coast? We live about 30 miles inland so at least we don't have surges to worry about. I just hope we don't have another Charley to worry about. We are all fl natives, and that was the first time we seen a storm that destructive. Don't worry too much, they are saying with el nino in charge we shouldn't have many storms this year. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Your advice does help, thank you. The turtle pond planning is on hold for now because there are some changes we need to make in the area we want to put the turtles. We have been raining hard here. The ponds overflow every afternoon (not bad in itself, but we have to cut power to the ponds for the evening):(. Day before yesterday, we had a bad storm come through that reminded us of our time through H.Charley. At least it shows us how much more we have to do to prepare for hurricane season. I will check out that video as soon as I finish here. Thanks again and have a wonderful day.

Hello pond friend
We are thinking about red-eared sliders, but we may get a box turtle. We aren't really sure yet, that is why I ask so many questions (goofy-face smiley inserted here) lol. I really appreciate your advice because you know how to make your pond work. We got the fish part right, but the turtle part is in planning. Right now we are up to 1 large and 3 small ponds. Been busy with getting them ready for hurricane season. Have a fantastic day.

I appreciate your advice. When we add the turtles, I will be sure to get the net. I want to try to give them as much protection as I can. That is terrible about losing your turtles. Unfortunately that is a downside to outdoor ponds, the predators. We recently lost a Sarrasa Comet to what we think was a large bird. Our fish are not scared, they visit with the cats and dog, begging for food from them. (they are spoiled.) Have a great day.

Happy Friday
I'm dropping off todays vote along with wishes for a wonderful weekend. The upgrades to your pond are awesome. Do your turtles escape through the pickets? My son wants to get turtles for our smaller pond, and I'm concerned about them wandering off too far from the pond. Have you had this happen?

Hello again. I'm glad your new fish worked out. Cichlids are usually aggressive with new fish. Did you put in another cichlid or did you put in something else. My son wants both an African cichlid AND a south american cichlid tank. It is always a new idea for a type of tank. (he has 6 tanks in his bedroom), but it is not enough, he is trying to take over the 55 gal. as well, lol. Another vote and hopes for a wonderful day.

Thanks for your vote and compliment. Those are Diamond Tetras. They are some of my favorites. We are trying to get different pictures of the fish and this is the one that submitted right. The Angels and other tetras really make the tank cool. They are big entertainers and very social. I haven't given up on the update, just trying harder. How much time do you spend with your ponds. I know time cleaning and maintaining are big, but do you get to picnic or relax and just enjoy? It seems so pretty and peaceful like a perfect spot to do that. Have a great day. Here's a vote for a great spot to relax.

That is a really nice picture you have of your pond. Looks like it took alot of time and work to get it right. At least spring has arrived to some parts of the country, I hope you are getting to enjoy it.
