Hey Kerry
How's poor Kerry doing? I was glad to hear he was doing better. Sorry for the lapse but I have just been feeling like crap. I really haven't gotten much done at all. Just getting to work and back has takes it's toll. I'm feeling better though. Lots of crap going around. Seems like you just start getting over one bug when another smacks you while you're still down. Nice ice storm this morning and I decided to stay home. Looks like I dodged a potential bullet too because there were so many accidents on the news. The cars were encrusted with about a half inch of ice. Since I have to leave for work at around 5:15 AM, I just couldn't deal with it. I called my boss and asked if I could work a different day instead. I didn't feel too bad because we had no cases on the schedule today anyway. I didn't want to do a hundred mile round trip on ice to do nothing all day. He didn't mind. I have the longest commute out of anyone else who works there. I finally got to do a tank water change. My poor tank creatures have suffered and I feel bad. I ran out of mixed water and the tank's running at about an inch below normal. Boy was there alot of mineralization at the bottom of the mix barrel which is 30 gal, even with two powerheads running all the time. We usually keep topping it off so it hasn't been at the bottom for a long time. I dumped the last 5 gallons because it looked so cloudy and gooky. I cleaned out the barrel but couldn't get all the encrusted sediment out. I'll have to use it all up and rinse out the entire barrel much more frequently. Just noticed that my bumblebee snails are holding another union meeting. They do that every now and then. They all get together in a group and huddle for awhile then go their own ways. Strange. I don't think they're breeding because they aren't increasing in numbers that I can see. I've got some little conch snails though that came in as hitch hickers that are breeding like rabbits. Thanks god they're really small. Enough blabbing for today! Take care.

I changed my 29 community tank (kitchen) picture and put up a pic of the clowns so you can see them. I also added two more clown loach pictures at the bottom. The largest clown loach would not come out for his picture to be taken. I guess he is camera shy. :-) Hope you enjoy. I plan on getting my other 12 tank (bedroom)profile added sometime today so you can see that tank. Keep in touch.

Hello Kerry! good to hear from you. I'd been busy this whole week, I'm part of the skeleton crew and well, to put it lightly, this year we were dumped in a crock o' shoyte! My Africans do that too, they move substrate around like blimming bulldozers. Sounds like you guys get that Cape Town climate. Its not too cold, but damn does it ever rain. I'm glad to be staying up in the north east of South Africa, we're closer to the tropic of capricorn and its pretty mild here, yet I still like winter. Its actually warm during the day, but the nights are cold and we have Atlantic cold fronts from the south, which sometimes has us in an icy grip for a couple of days, but snow and ice, nothing of the sort. My Africans are stressed by the 30C temp. It is the ambient temperature during this season, but I swicthed theirs off since october. Its the discus tank's one that I switched off recently, as it was reaching 32-33C. They don't mind, but just for peace of mind, I have kept up a good water change regimen and I always pour in water that is 2 degrees colder, and it refreshes, nay, invigorates them....They are so much more vibrant after a water change. Votes for you! All the best wishes to you and your loved ones for the New Year! Happy New Year! Cheers!! Stokes

Well, I got the loaches a cave but they are still using the same hideaway they did before. I will not take it out as I think that is what might have given them ich before. Loaches are very sensitive. I didn't buy any new fish but I looked. Both my tanks are filled to the max with fish. The store had a lot of very pretty bettas and I had a hard time walking away. Hope you have a great New Year also. Tracy

Hope you are well. No, I didn't get the loaches a bigger hiding decoration yet. I might go this weekend. I have to go get some frozen shrimp and bloodworms also. My 9 month old nephew was over for Christmas Eve and he is fasinated with my tanks. I have to hold him back away from the tank because he keeps wanting to hit the glass. One of his presents I got him was a toy called "my first fishbowl". Hope you had a Merry Christmas.

Hi Kerry - how have you been? I haven't talked to you in awhile. Hope you are feeling well. Things are going ok here. Both tanks seem to be doing ok. I did lose my otocinclus in my 12 gallon. I am not quite sure why though. The black skirts and bleeding hearts are doing ok in the 29 gallon. My 3 clown loaches are getting really big. They all stay in a small coral decoration and it looks really crammed in there so I thinking of getting something else for them that is bigger. I would leave the other decoration in there though. I know how touchy clown loaches can be and how easy they get ich. How are your tanks doing? Are you ready for the holidays? I got my shopping done and will wrap presents this weekend. Take care and stay in touch. Tracy

Hey Kerry!
Awww, kitties! That’s so awesome! There was a stray cat hanging around my uncle’s shop and when he went into the garage off of his building he found little kittens! He asked me if I wanted to buy 1 get 4 free lol. I don’t think our landlord would let us have a cat cuz when we moved in 4 yrs ago he was a little hesitant about saying yes to us having a dog. But he let us when he realized Kovu was just a little Pomeranian. Well, keep those kitties entertained and enjoy their company! Vote. <>< Jen

I feel kinda bad about the LFS giving me credit for the 4 rasboras I took back with fungus. I know they are not going to make it. I am actually going to a new fish store that just opened but I know the owner. He used to service our big 135 gallon tank. So far, it seems everyone in my 29 gallon is getting along ok. I keep checking my angelfish to make sure her fins are not being bitten by the black skirt tetras. What kind of fish did your tetras kill ? Do you still have the tetras in another tank ? Well, I am on vacation for the next two days so I will try and get my Christmas shopping done. I have a 7 month old nephew to buy for this year, so that should be fun. And of course, the siamese kitties get presents too. Talk to you later.

Hey Kerry kitty
Came to visit your discus today. I just love discus. You and Stokes have the prettiest ones I've seen. Jack and I spent the day at his cardiologist's office. He's one of the docs I work with and onc again it turned into my needing help instead. He put me on blood pressure medicine. Jack checked out just fine. Back to work tommorrow then off to surgery thursday morning. They called this morning and changed the time. The wire placement is at 9am then I have to hang around for three and a half hours till the surgery slot. That's a long time to hang around with a wire sticking out of you! I can't wait till its all over. How have you been feeling? Has that fever you had subsided? I sure hope so. You take good care my friend.

Well, I ended up back at the LFS today and got credit for my harlequin rasboras that were sick and came home with 4 bleeding heart and 4 black tetras. Everything seems to be peaceful for now. I will watch close and see what happens. I did read that black tetras can be fin nippers so I will keep an eye on them. Although it did say if you have a group of them, they should be ok. I tried treating the harlequin rasboras but they were not getting any better. The LFS did say they are not a real hardy fish. My 12 gallon eclipse in my bedroom is still doing fine. They tried to talk me into another small angelfish for the 12 gallon but I just think a 12 gallon is too small for 2 angelfish. Baby angelfish are so cute. I had a hard time saying no but was trying to think of what would be best for the fish not me. Hope you have a good weekend. I will keep you posted. Thanks for all your advice and help.

Well, I must just have bad luck because now all my harlequin rasboras have fungus. I lost one and now the other four have it. I am going to net them out and put them in a separate tank and medicate them. The other fish in my tank are ok. The LFS took back both pearl gouramis. I have bad luck with my 29 gallon. The 12 gallon is doing very well. I was looking into silver dollars but looked them up online and they get too big for a 29 gallon I think. Maybe swordtails? I obviously need something hardy. I don't understand why I am having such a hard time with my 29 gallon. I test the water and it is fine. Well, enough of my complaining. I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving. Take care. Hope you are feeling ok.

Yes, the rasboras are orange in color. They are pretty. Do your pearl gouramis chase each other ? I have two and the largest one is chasing the smaller one. I don't know if that is normal or if I should take one back. The smaller fishes back tail is nipped looking too. Why do I always get the mean fish ?? What would you do ?
