wednesday already! how's your week been so far? we used to go to walmart and get ghost shrimp like as many as the associate would catch. lol. we'd always end up with big mamas with eggs in them, but if they ever actually had any they probably got eaten by the fish or the filter, lol. they are SO fun to watch. there was an article in FAMA like two years ago, and they re-printed it in a recent issue of Aquarium Fish Internationl, i think it was called Planted Tanks for the Budget Conscious. but anyway, it was super simple, get a betta bowl, or something similar, like a few gallons, put some regular old potting soil in the bottom, fill it with plants and AGED (water from one of your tanks) aquarium water and add shrimp, and i guess there is very minimal maintenance, and the reason for the aged water is that some water has heavy metals in it that are bad for the shrimp, but if it's been aged then they are all "bound up" and won't hurt anything. ever since i read it the first time i wanted to do it, and now that i have access to small tanks (a 2.5 gallon with a glass lid would be perfect!!) every time i go looking for ghosties the store doesn't have them. or they don't have enough, lol. :P i also need to get more low maintenance plants in possession. it will happen someday ;) leaving some votes to of course, i hope all your fish are happy. :) |
