Hi Lizzy! It was certainly an honour and a privilege to hear from you! Hey, I’m kidding, I don’t want to make you feel even worse about not writing me. Well, I’ve kind of reneged on my assurance as well as I remember promising to be more regularly visiting the fishchannel site. I haven’t been in touch with Jack lately and I sincerely hope he is well. I’ve just gotten back from leave. I was off from the 30th Sep – 11 Oct. Its mid spring here and its getting more hotter with each day. My mom was in Canada and the US for 3 weeks, she attended my cousins wedding in Toronto 2 weeks ago and then went to Iowa City to spend a week with my cousin who is practicing medicine there. He took her to Vancouver and Seattle which my mom really loved. She went alone this time as the airfares are just a little too expensive. What is rather strange is that SA Airways do now fly directly to Canada, so she flew in to JFK and then caught another flight to Toronto. She brought only a few things, too expensive for us to spend there. I haven’t been on facebook for some time now. I will check it out soon. I haven’t played Castle guild but there are a few in the office who play it. About the outlaws I had to close the yard up nicely. I put up an 8ft wall and palisade fencing the type we call arse tearers in Afrikaans (gatskeurders). We installed 3 security beams which will sound an internal buzzer when they pick up any motion. The back wall has been extended to 6ft and also has the palisades on top. At least my daughter can play outside without having to worry too much about her safety. Child safety is a big concern here, yesterday a 16 yr old girl got kidnapped in Roodepoort just ten minutes away from where I stay. She was found later completely burned. Though the kidnapper torched her body, her mom identified here body earlier today by way of her ear-rings. The police are still looking for this swine. I hope the community gets hold of him first. In South Africa there are what we call kangaroo courts and the result is often a ‘necklace’ which is a punishment where tyres are placed around the offender and petrol is doused over and the whole device including the offender put to flame. Its harsh, but with the banning of the death penalty, murderers are having a day in the proverbial park. I also hope to get a new dog, my cousin breeds pitbulls and would be good to have around the house. I wish I could come to one of your barbecues and of course invite you to a good South African braai. We had one for my daughter who turned five on the 2nd. We hired a couple of ponies to ride, a swing carousel, a horse carousel and electric buggy racing. I had about 100 kids, their parents and a few of our friends at the community park. It turned out great and the kids had a ball. I’ve been battling with my back ever since. I have a slipped disc in the lower lumbar area, so I’ve had to take it very easy. I’m glad the post cards made it through, I’ll send you some more! My aunt is summoning me |
