Due to their small size you could actually do up to 5 in the ten and they would be happier for it. They will do a better job on the plants themselves keeping algae off and will do the glass as well but not as good as the Pleco. So otos are better with the plants and Plecos are better with the glass. It also depends on what kind of algae is on the glass. If it is green and not hard the otos will definately do well here too.

At worse, your plants will be cleaner and you may have to scrape some prior to water change.

btw, oto's do not do well in newer tanks. They need a mature aquarium that is at least 6 months old. And they need their diet supplimented with algae tablets, squash, cucumber, etc.. once or twice a week depending on the available algae that is eatable .
