Hi Bob,
That is funny! So we were both baking bread out of our bread machines? LOL. Sounds like you have lots of festival choices in your area through out the summer. What fun!

Well, regarding algae fixes here is my 2-cents. First, do a search on this site on "algae" and two links will pop up. Choose the top one by Neale Monks. It is a good article. I never add any chemicals to my tanks including medication (unless I can definitely identify the problem like with Ich). Any problems I look at what is the cause instead of quick fix. So all that I add to my water is organic carbon (Flourish Excel) and Flourish - plant supplements. Algae is caused by only 3 things: water, light and nutrient. With water changes that takes care of the first unless you have phosphates/nitrates or something coming from your tap. Too much or not enough light? Too much uneaten food? Too many fish? Not enough fast growing plants to out compete the algae?

I like some algae but not in excess of course. For fish that help I prefer oto cats and shrimp as they don't add much to the bioload of the tank.

Hope this helps. I am trying to find the cause of black algae spots showing up on my Anubias leaves. Not a biggie yet but....:)

Kathy
