Howdy...Left a vote !
I generally try to keep my PH around 6.8-7.2. I learned that from keeping Discus, I use a Discus Buffer , plus R.O. water that I have go and buy. My Nitrate and Nitrile levels are barely even neglible. I have a very large Filter and I only feed once a day to keep down fish waste etc.. Perhaps I was straving the poor criiters to death? I hope not, I would feel terrible about that! One thing I've found , with R.O. water, it eliminates all the constant adjusting of buffers, up and down chemicals to maintain PH and Nitrate/Nitrile levels? I've used R.O. for the last 8 years! It helps a lot. One day I'll get my own system because I'm getting too old to be trudging water and, because I want to get a much larger tank one day too? Thanks for the relpy!

Chris
