Hi
First off I'd like to welcome you to the club and congratulations on such a fabulous deal on your beautiful tank! I read your blog at Mr Crab's frag page and I have to agree with her that you're going way too fast. I too haven't been doing this very long either and have made (and still do) make alot of mistakes. I think alot of the rock you added needed to be recycled as it was probably going through a die off phase from transfer. Even what is called pre-cured live rock needs to be cycled. When I first got my "pre-cured" live rock, I added it directly to the tank and ended up killing alot of my fish by the next morning from the ammonia and nitrite spike from the bacteria die off. That could be part of the problem with your live sand too. Check out this acclimation guide for sand and rock : http://www.liveaquaria.com/PIC/article.cfm?aid=209 The coralline algae probably turned color on you because it is in a die off phase too. What are your nitrite/nitrate levels at? The bioballs can harbor alot of nitrates. I ended up taking out all the media substrate from my canister filter because I couldn't get my nitrates down. I did it very slowly also as to not shock the system. I think you just need to sit back and wait. I know that's really hard to do. I couldn't wait either in the beginning when I started with fish only and ended up murdering alot in my haste because the tank just wasn't ready. Did your local reef store test all your water parameters? Have you tested the water coming out of your tap? Is it well water or a city source? What temperature is the tank at? I had a coral meltdown when my tank temp. was actually about 8 to 10 degrees higher than what the digital thermometer was reading. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. On a whim after a couple weeks of tearing my hair out trying to find out what was wrong with everything I put a regular glass thermometer in and figured out the problem. Now I always check with more than one. An expensive lesson that was! Well I wish you the best of luck and let me know how things go for you. Leaving a vote and take care.
