howdy well i dont know what caused the spike in ammonia. i put most of the fish in the new tank now. and i tested the water in the smaller tank. it is still high in ammonia. i got all the decorations out and there was an old snail shell. i had cleaned it out before i put it in there though. anyway, i did a good vacuum and will again tomorrow. so i hppe the ammonia is going to drop. wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgivin, Kay
