Hi!
Hey Bud! No sweat dude, I figured you were probably just busy. At fifteen you must be around grade 10. These next few years are the most important in your schooling career and I understand that you need to study and do your homework. Sorry to hear about your computer. Things have been quite busy at work. MY daughter turned 2 a couple of weeks back and we had a party for her. It was Barney themed and I had to try real hard to resist puking or worse, stabbing the cake to bits. Well as much as Barney irritates me, he does teach my kid some good things and she is smitten by him and anything that bears his picture. I was thinking, maybe I should hire a Barney suit and give her a good scare! I’m just kidding! She loves sesame street too, in South Africa its all in Zulu, Sotho, Afrikaans and English, so its quite funny hearing the characters speak in all those languages. The fish have been well. I’ve bought some new plants and done the usual maintenance and stuff. The snakes are well, very active and eating. Its become progressively hotter and its great weather for water, swimming, surfing, etc. We are worried about the lack of rain, which could result in a drought, which could be unpleasant. Let’s hope it doesn’t get that far. The current economic crisis that is affecting the US and Europe is definitely filtering down to other nations and our currency is crashing as are our markets. No one has jumped out the window yet, I’ll take that as a good sign. 15 is an age many of the boys in South Africa go for tribal initiation ceremonies and live out in the wild with not much more than a string around the waist and a blanket. Initiates are covered in white mud and learn how to fend for themselves, as well as firemaking, hunting and stick fighting. Usually at the end of the ceremony, the boys are circumcised, usually with no anesthesia and fully conscious (Ow!!!). The girls do something similar and also learn before being initiated. Initiate girls also wear very little. They usually go bare-breasted during that time and at the end of their initiation, they dance with reeds, and parade in front of the king (usually topless, it probably helps the king make his mind up about choosing a new wife. The Swazi king Mswati II, has 9 wives and 2 fiances, but that doesn’t stop him from choosing another at the last Umhlanga ceremony they held in September. Thought you’d find that interesting. Anyway, take care and be good! Cheers! Stokes.
