Greetings! Hi! How goes it with you, my Alaskan friend? Here it’s hot with probably some rain in the afternoon. I just hope it rains long after I leave work, as I have a couple of things to do after work. I must pick up my grey rat snakes tank today. They messed up with the glass and had to refit new pieces. Anyway, I’ve been told its not a standard size and therefore the hassle. But I’m glad to get it back. She hasn’t been eating for the time she is sharing the Taiwanese beauty’s tank. The Taiwanese is not shy, she couldn’t care so long as she is eating, all is well. Yes, tourists bring in the money and everyone wants to climb the band wagon. Here too the rates at holiday towns are raised during peak seasons. Entrance fees, accommodation, food, transportation, hell everything. So I tend to take my holiday off season like in March or October/November. The weather is great in that its not hot like the midsummer time when its peak. The crowds and queues are too much for me. I also feel terribly uncomfortable in cities, but that’s because where I hail from we have lots of space, wide open places to roam and not much traffic, very little activity around my parts. Its great terrain for bundu-bashing on an off-road bike or quad biking. Also horse riding, road running and mountain biking though technically we don’t have mountains near us. We too are battling with prices. I only wonder how people that are on the breadline are getting on, we have masses of poor, disadvantaged people that cannot afford forking out more money for paraffin for heating, lighting and diesel for transport. All the modes of transport will pick up their prices, so prices of most commodities will rise. I’m surprised to hear that the concept of a hydrogen powered car was shelved because some swine at the top decided that it would hurt business. But that is exactly what they need to make these days, owing to the negative effect of the carbon emissions and the dependence on fossil fuels. I suppose the rich Arab sheiks are also to be blamed. They make up the bulk of OPEC and they can do something to bring the price down, but they need a new fleet of luxury cars, so I guess we will have to pay for it. Here water is cheap and its very clean. We drink from the tap and I fill my tanks with our water. Its medium hard and slightly alkaline, which makes it good for conditioning to the desired range of parameters. New Yorkers are impatient and rude when they lose it. They must learn to relax. Especially on holiday, you shouldn’t be all wound up. I’m more comfortable in a range between 80-88 F. You would not like it much here then. It is mostly warm and the sun is hot, it attacks your skin between 11:00 – 16:00. My African tank’s heater is still off and the water is a constant 28C. Anyways, got to go now. Have a lovely weekend. Bye. |
