Buddha rubs for luck just checking in and making sure all is well in your worlds! Since you are stuck with smaller tanks, I think you would like to try male paradise fish. They are cheap, very beautiful, and come in an amazing black color as well as the common blue and red, very active, highly aggressive and fun to watch. They were the first fish ever imported and kept in bowls from way back in the beginning of fish keeping and are quite tolerant of extremes-temps in the 50's wont' kill them and are not so picky about perfect water. They are also bubble nest builders and well, I like them as much as Bettas. Just a thought for ya since you have the fish wish bug with the rest of us and there's just never enough room or money!
