Hi Bill, I’m sorry to hear about your accident. It is difficult to be handicapped, but you have much to live for and enjoy, like your family for example. And its certainly very positive that you still partake in your interest and hobbies. Yes, its pretty exciting here, mostly because its so dangerous too. As you may already know, South Africa had the highest rates for murder, armed robbery and rape. So besides looking out for animals, you have to look out for malicious humans too. Mechanics are not my favourite sort of people, but you are an exception along with all the honest ones. There are unscrupulous mechanics out here that dupe people into paying high prices, are generally dishonest and not to be trusted and they entertain the likes of car thieves who sell stolen parts to them. But I think the US has good standards and that sort of thing is not how Americans do such business. The problem with this country is it got out of a totally repressive system like apartheid and went to total freedom. From censorship of the media to total freedom. With that freedom came many liberties, the people who were previously disadvantaged felt like everyone owed them something. Now poverty and unemployment coupled with alcohol and drug abuse makes for a perfect climate for crime. Like cockroaches their count doubles and trebles. As the police arrest them there are more and more of them around, the jails are getting full and no politician or department is showing any interest. The death penalty has been abolished and we, the people weren’t consulted about that. We also have foreigners syndicating crime here because of our lax border patrols, foreigners like the Chinese, Russians, Nigerians, Pakistanis, Zimbabweans and Mozambicans, among others. We wish we were rid of this scum, as they go about their daily business supplying drugs to our kids, smuggling ivory and rhino horn, abalone and lobster poaching, game poaching, cattle rustling, murder, robbery and racketeering. I’m glad your son is on the right track. I used to work at a youth center some time back and I tell you its sad hearing from the parents of youngsters who are addicts. I’m glad that he chose his path well. Drugs are the wreckers of lives and families and so is alcohol. I like red tails too. I would like to have more snakes, but the problem is space. Though a red tail won’t grow too long, another cage would be a bit too much. However, I have plans for a Vietnam Blue beauty, well that is if I ever come across one. I would also like to have at least a milksnake and a california king too. Fish are my first passion though, and I would like to get a 6” tank for my discus, perhaps move the Africans to their current setup and get some community fish in the African setup.
