Hi there!
Sorry for the late reply, mate. I've been posting on Reptilechannel.com and didn't look at this profile for a while now. Regarding the question about ball pythons, yes they are related though distantly to pythons, as in they kill prey by constriction, rather than venom. But the difference is pretty marked. i do not have any personal experience, but I have read a lot about many different types of snakes and ball pythons can be difficult to feed at times. I think they need a latent period of 8 weeks in winter and then when spring resumes you can turn the heat up and get it hungry to eat again. Also they eat less often than rat snakes or king snakes. Usually fed once in 10-14 days. They also suffer badly from vitamin and mineral deficiency so get a good reptile vitamin and mineral preperation and mix in with the water. Apart from that you may find tons of information on the web, but not all are reliable. So rather get a book from your local bookstore or borrow from the library, at least you will know that there are no falsely made up info on the species. Have you considered red tailed boas? A lot easier if you want to start out with Boiids. Also visit ReptileChannel.com, they have a little information about ball pythons. Take care. Cheers! Stokes
