Undergravel filter I've used one for years as a secondary means of filtration. I also use it as a means of water circulation throughout the tank. I have a pair of powerheads and rather than hang them on the side of the tank to circulate the water, I support them on the tubingfor the undergravel...that way I get a double benefit from having them in the tank. The system tends to pull the waste and extra food into the gravel and holds it there until I clean it when doing a water change. How are you making out with your tank(s)? Haven't seen too many questions from you lately, so I guess that you've managed to figure things out and are up & running successfully!
