Seasons Greetings!
It is rather rural, one can find people on horseback,or travelling in horse carts, lots of livestock grazing on the neighbouring hills. Fortunately I live in an area where the big game are restricted to reserves. There are some totally wild places here, but animals such as baboons and monkeys can be a bother as they come through towns rummaging trash cans and looting any households that have windows open etc, leopards roam some areas, they can be nasty if cornered. Closer to the city things are pretty much like most cities, we have some great national parks and wildlife. Im an outdoorsy kind of person with an affinity for animal welfare. I also like history and culture. You will be surprised to know that I'm familiar with a lot of American expressions but I do not know the Sticks. We call it veld which is an Afrikaans word meaning field. Most of what we see in cinema and tv is American and thank heavens for that cos British sucks if you've ever watched any. Much of the programs were dubbed in Zulu or Afrikaans which is what a lot of people out here speak. I could tell a southener compared to a Canadian to a New Yorker based on tv representation of various different types of American. We speak a rather British sort of English here, heavily influenced by the Afrikaans language. There are of course localpidgins and slangst that make it easy to communicate in a country where we have 11 languages. It is about quarter before 12, so I best be off before I kiss the celebrations. Take care and it certainly has been nice to hear from u. Happy New Year! Cheers! Stokes
