Snails
Nerites are excellent algae eaters. The only down side I have noticed with them is in tanks with 2 or more the laid eggs. (will not hatch in freshwater) The eggs look like sesame seeds and are hard to remove. I like the rabbit snails the are live-bearers so no over populating. I can't vouch for there appetite though. I do not have them in any tank with out other algae eaters. I have heard the Japanese trapdoor snails are the best of both worlds, good algae eaters and live-bearers so no eggs.
