Snails I like to use freshwater Nerite snails, because they can not breed in fresh water. These snails are also available for saltwater but can be acclimated to fresh, I have never done this. I try to keep about 3 or 4 snails per gallon. I buy mine through the mail. My water is very soft so I see some pitting on the shells over time (2+ years). They are great for algae, I can not remember the last time I had to scrape it off the glass.
